Offsite housing specialist TALO has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Darren Pace as its new head of operations. Mr Pace brings around 30 years of experience to his new role, having worked in both timber-framed construction and modern methods of construction (MMC) for a number of industry leaders. Most recently, he led the construction of luxury homes in the Cotswolds for a global

developer, which used timber offsite technology. At TALO, Mr Pace will lead all aspects of project delivery, working closely with developer clients and housebuilders, their design teams, and TALO’s offsite manufacturing and logistics operations. “Darren’s deep operational knowledge of all types of housing delivery, together with his passion for improving outcomes, is exactly what we need to help scale TALO’s impact,” said Bengt Magnussen, commercial director at TALO. “With his project leadership and a series of other new appointments, we are strengthening the entire product lifecycle – from design to delivery – and ensuring our clients benefit from an integrated, high- quality experience that lends itself very well to repeat business.” TALO’s panelised timber superstructure is currently manufactured in Finland. The system arrives on site complete with insulation, triple glazing, and internal plaster boarding.

New MD for Timber Connection

Timber importer, Timber Connection has appointed Keeley Baker as its new managing director.

Danny Catherall, who founded Timber Connection in 1991, is stepping into the role of founder and CEO.

He will remain closely connected to the business, with the transition allowing him to step back from the day-to-day operations.

Keeley Baker has been part of the Timber Connection business for more than 11 years – most recently as commercial director.

“Her contribution has been central to Timber Connection’s continued growth, and this appointment reflects the trust and confidence we have in her ability to lead the company forward,” the company said in a statement.

“His customer-first mindset and proven ability to lead high-performing teams make him the ideal person to spearhead our next phase of growth in the region,” added Mr Mitchell.

Most recently, Mr Hills served as chief customer officer at Phocas Software, a Klipboard partner, where he led global teams across professional services, customer success, support and operations. Under his leadership, his team supported nearly 3,000 customers using Phocas’ financial planning and analytics (FP&A) platform.

Obituary: David Garrick

People have been paying tribute to former UK timber industry executive David Garrick who has died after an entire working life in the timber industry. Mr Garrick started in sales in Lancashire during the 1950s, progressing to become managing director of Meyer (North), based in Hull. He moved to Hull in 1984 and spent nearly 20 years at Meyer. He also spent time working at Lamboard. Mr Garrick was an active member and past president of the Yorkshire & Humberside TTBS.

“He will be sadly missed and the trade has lost one of industry’s true gentleman,” said one timber trader.

The TTBS described him as a larger- than-life character in the Yorkshire and Humber timber trade circles.
