TTJ AWARDS | 2025 HOST & GUEST SPEAKER
TTJ Awards in 29th year
The TTJ Awards has been running since 1997 to recognise service excellence in the timber and wood product industries. It is the longest-running awards event in the UK and Ireland timber sector, attended by sawmillers, importers, merchants, manufacturers, construction sector companies, industry associations and sector stakeholders. The Awards was built on a foundation of
voted categories covering the main product trading categories – solid wood and panel products, being expanded steadily over the years to cover other areas of the industry. Structural timber systems, joinery products and timber garden products are some of the areas added in the past decade. Our voting model remains focused on timber
buyers and users who buy products from the timber supply chain. In essence, what we are doing is seeking to recognise the supply chain – so intrinsically important to the UK economy – by giving timber product buyers and users an opportunity to vote for their best-performing suppliers. We’re glad to report that interest in the
TTJ Awards remain strong this year with about 1,500 timber industry customers filling out voting forms on the online voting site. This includes construction professionals,
specifiers, merchants, timber product manufacturers and contractors. The voting categories have been promoted far and wide by TTJ to reach as many timber buyers as possible.
The Judged Categories have also seen a good number and quality of entries across the Career Development, Excellence in Marketing, Environmental Achievement, Timber Innovation and Timber Merchanting Development categories.
I know judging was closely contested in some of the categories, testimony to the creativity and hard work going on in the UK wood industries. Our thanks go to the expert judges for their valuable time in assessing all the entries. We’re delighted to be back at the Hilton
London Bankside in London’s vibrant South Bank area, just a short distance from the Tate Modern. The hotel’s specialist Gin Bar, The Distillery will once again be the setting for the Post Awards Drinks. Our host and entertainer this year is broadcaster Justin Webb, who presents on the Today programme.
Justin also presents the hugely successful Americast podcast, having served as the BBC’s chief Washington correspondent for the best
part of a decade when he interviewed US President Barack Obama in the White House. He is a regular columnist on US affairs for The
Times. In his previous career he was Europe correspondent and a foreign affairs correspondent covering the first Gulf War, the fall of the Soviet Union and the first all-race South African election.
His book on a 1970s childhood ‘The Gift of a
Radio’ was widely praised for its humour and honesty. Finally, a big thank you goes to all our sponsors – listed in this Supplement – including our headline sponsor this year Epicor – an important supplier of software solutions to the distribution, manufacturing and building supply sector. We also appreciate the backing from industry
organisations TDUK, the STA and the BMF. TDUK’s unstinting support in backing the Awards and sponsoring the Gold Award – the coveted Timber Trader of the Year – is much valued. ■
