KALMAR AND APM TERMINALS REINFORCE LONG-TERM COLLABORATION WITH STRADDLE CARRIER ORDER
K
almar has secured an agreement to supply APM Terminals at Tangier, Morocco, with an additional 20 Kalmar
hybrid straddle carriers, set to be deployed at the APM Terminals MedPort Tangier facility. The order, which was included in Kalmar’s Q3 2024 intake, is scheduled for delivery in stages across the second and third quarters of 2025. APM Terminals MedPort Tangier, which opened in 2019, is part of the Tanger Med 2 port complex and plays a crucial role in facilitating major international shipping routes between Europe, Africa, the Americas, and the Far East. The terminal complements APM Terminals’ operations at the nearby Tanger Med 1 facility, enhancing the overall efficiency of the region’s port services. “Our collaboration with Kalmar dates
back to 2017, when we placed our first order for straddle carriers for Tanger Med 2. Over the years, our partnership has only strengthened. The Kalmar fleet has been pivotal in advancing the terminal’s capabilities, refining
our operational concept, and helping us reduce CO2 emissions,” said Keld Pedersen, Managing Director of West Med Hub Terminals at APM Terminals. Currently, the MedPort Tangier
terminal operates a fleet of 65 Kalmar straddle carriers. As part of the new agreement, Kalmar will integrate the new hybrid machines with the terminal’s operating system through its Kalmar One software, which will be supported
by comprehensive professional services, maintenance, and support. “We are thrilled that APM Terminals has chosen to expand their fleet with our hybrid straddle carrier technology,” said Arto Keskinen, President of Horizontal Transportation at Kalmar. “As with previous orders, these new machines will be fully configured, tested, and pre-integrated to ensure a seamless and safe transition into operations.”
