CB&I is the most experienced supplier of nuclear containment vessels in the world We have supplied and erected a total of 123 nuclear containment vessels in the USA and nine (9) outside the USA. 75% of the operating nuclear plants in the USA have a CB&I containment vessel. We have played an integral role throughout decades of multiple nuclear industry cycles.
CB&I is a “one-stop shop” fully integrated turnkey supplier and constructor for nuclear work CB&I has the knowledge and experience to qualify vendors, source and fabricate materials and perform assembly work all within the CB&I organization.
CB&I is a leader in safety and quality Our world-class industrial safety record and proven nuclear safety culture are evidenced in our work. Our ASME-approved nuclear quality assurance manual has enabled us to meet the most stringent of requirements on a consistent basis.
CB&I provides schedule assurance and lessons learned We know what it takes to execute and deliver containment vessels and have many lessons learned from past projects that can be applied to provide savings on project cost and schedule.
CB&I at Plant Vogtle CB&I has been a key contributor to the Vogtle nuclear site in Waynesboro, Georgia for decades, beginning with our work on Units 1 and 2 in the 1980s and continuing through the construction of the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 30 years – Vogtle Unit 3 which entered commercial operation in 2023, followed by Unit 4 in 2024. Vogtle is now the largest nuclear power plant in the
United States, delivering roughly 4,800 MW following the addition of the new units. Units 3 and 4 employ the Westinghouse AP1000 advanced passive reactor design, known for its robust safety features and high efficiency.
Both units are already demonstrating excellent performance with a 98% capacity factor. CB&I’s original scope
at Vogtle focused on the containment vessel pressure boundary and the execution of ASME Section III code work under the company’s Nuclear “N” Stamp. Over time, CB&I’s role
expanded significantly to include fabrication and assembly of nine major module packages – such as CA-01, CA 05, the air inlet tension ring, shield walls, and CB 20 – constructed within the site’s modular assembly building.
Advanced and Small Modular Reactors Our very recent nuclear construction field execution work, including modular assembly, is directly useful for the new wave of advanced and small modular reactors (SMRs), constructed with modular fabrication to reduce overall schedule and project costs.
CB&I is well positioned
to contribute to many of the emerging SMR technology solutions, and we are already involved in the development of several of these designs. We provide early, up front support in the detailed engineering and planning phase that will assist with fabrication tolerances, shipping and field constructability issues – where cost becomes significant.
