The Community Pharmacy of the Year Award recognises pharmacies that demonstrate excellence not only in clinical service delivery, but also in leadership, resilience and community impact.
Open to all pharmacies - whether independent or part of a chain - this category celebrates organisations that combine a strong business profile with a proven track record of initiatives that genuinely benefit the communities they serve.
This award reflects the central role community pharmacies play as accessible, trusted healthcare hubs. Judges look for pharmacies that show consistent performance across multiple dimensions: safe and effective service delivery, responsiveness to local health needs, innovation in practice and the ability to sustain high standards in a challenging operating environment.
Strong entries clearly demonstrate how business strength underpins community benefit, enabling pharmacies to invest in services, people and outreach.
Initiatives recognised in this category often go beyond routine provision. These may include preventative health campaigns, enhanced clinical services, creative public health engagement,

partnerships with local organisations, or targeted support for vulnerable populations.
What distinguishes successful nominations is clear evidence of impact - showing how pharmacy-led activity has improved access, outcomes, awareness or patient experience over time.
Importantly, the award values consistency and intent. Rather than rewarding one-off projects, judges seek pharmacies that have embedded community benefit into their operating model. This includes strong leadership, effective governance, workforce development and the ability to adapt to evolving healthcare demands while remaining financially and operationally robust.
Operating in a rural coastal setting last year’s winner, Portaferry Pharmacy, demonstrated how a
well-run business can act as a platform for wide-ranging community health initiatives, preventative care and patient advocacy.
Led by Joanne McMullan, its recognition reflected a sustained pattern of leadership and impact rather than any single campaign.
However, the Community Pharmacy of the Year Award is not defined by geography, size or ownership model.
What matters is the ability to show how the pharmacy contributes positively to community health while maintaining a strong, sustainable business.
This award celebrates pharmacies that exemplify what modern community pharmacy can achieve: clinically credible, commercially sound and deeply connected to the people they serve.
