The Pharmacist of the Year Award celebrates pharmacists who demonstrate a strong record of innovative and progressive practice, showcasing the vital and evolving role of community pharmacy within healthcare. Open to contractor and employee pharmacists working in independent or group pharmacies, this category recognises individuals whose work enhances patient care, advances clinical practice and strengthens the visibility and value of pharmacy in their communities.
Nominations may be submitted by pharmacists themselves, colleagues or pharmacy business owners, reflecting the broad influence and leadership this award seeks to highlight.
Judges look for clear evidence of initiative, professional excellence and sustained contribution, with a focus on how pharmacists use their skills to improve access to care, engage patients more effectively and deliver meaningful health outcomes. The award places strong emphasis on impact. Successful entries often demonstrate how pharmacists have led or developed services that respond to local health needs, introduced innovative approaches to consultation or prescribing, or played a key role in preventative care and health education.

Innovation may take many forms, from community outreach and service redesign to the use of digital tools or collaborative care models, provided it delivers clear benefit to patients and the wider health system.
Leadership and influence are central themes. The award recognises pharmacists who act as advocates for their profession, mentors to others and trusted clinical figures within their communities. Many nominees show how pharmacy expertise can reduce pressure on other parts of the healthcare system while improving patient confidence and health literacy.
Last year’s winner, Stephen Toland of Murphy’s Chemist, provided a clear example of the award’s purpose. His recognition reflected a sustained commitment to
community-led care, innovation in service delivery and leadership that extended beyond the pharmacy setting.
Importantly, the award acknowledged the breadth and consistency of his contribution rather than a single initiative.
Pharmacists were assessed on how their work enhances patient care and demonstrates the profession’s growing clinical and community role.
By highlighting excellence in this category, this award celebrates pharmacists who lead with integrity, innovate responsibly and consistently demonstrate the positive impact pharmacy can have on individuals, communities and the healthcare system as a whole.
