TEAM MEMBER OF THE YEAR

ASHLEY MULRINE HEART, HUMILITY AND HEROISM IN COMMUNITY PHARMACY

T

his year’s Team Member of the Year Award recognises an individual whose contribution to pharmacy services has

been as impactful as it is inspiring. Ashley Mulrine, Healthcare Partner and Dispensing Assistant at Rowlands Pharmacy in Springburn, Glasgow, is a shining example of how dedication, compassion and leadership from behind the counter can transform not only a pharmacy, but an entire community.

Ashley has long been a cornerstone of her team, consistently going above and beyond the call of duty. A remarkable journey in pharmacy is marked by her commitment to excellence, humility and an extraordinary ability to lift up those around her.

Whether she is managing her own busy branch, stepping in to rescue a neighbouring location with operational challenges, or supporting her colleagues across the region, Ashley does it all with grace, humour and a genuine desire to help.

As an NVQ2-qualified Healthcare Partner currently completing her NVQ3 Registered Technician/ACPT course, Ashley balances clinical and administrative responsibilities with remarkable skill. In the past year, she has managed not just one, but two branches-each with its own unique challenges. At one site, Ashley played a vital role in implementing the Pilpouch compliance aid system, streamlining workflow and ensuring that patients received their medications safely and on time.

Her ability to design efficient rotas, reorganise team structures and implement best practices has led to dramatic improvements in performance, patient care and morale. Ashley’s leadership has helped her own branch achieve “Best in Class” status for over six consecutive months, a feat that reflects both operational success and a workplace culture built on trust, kindness and mutual respect.

What truly sets Ashley apart is her quiet yet powerful sense of responsibility. She leads by

example, regularly supporting her team with empathy and encouragement, while never seeking praise or recognition. When a patient recently collapsed outside her pharmacy, Ashley instinctively responded-not as a manager or healthcare worker, but as a human being. She stayed with the patient for hours until emergency services arrived, ensuring they were comfortable and cared for, all without fanfare. She then returned to work as if nothing had happened. This simple but profound act of compassion earned her the title of ‘Healthcare Hero’ in the company’s internal newsletter-and rightly so.

Ashley’s positive influence also extends to her colleagues across the wider Rowlands network. She frequently offers peer support and guidance to other teams, stepping in wherever needed and sharing her expertise without hesitation. Her ‘can-do’ attitude, professionalism and approachable nature have made her a mentor to many and a trusted go-to figure in the region. Patients and community members regularly
