BARNTONS PHARMACY EMBODIES WHAT PARTNERSHIP IN PRACTICE LOOKS LIKE: JOINED-UP COMMUNICATION, PATIENT FIRST THINKING AND SHARED RESPONSIBILITY

sessions, offering real-time clinical learning in a busy, patient-facing environment.

One memorable case illustrates the depth of their dedication. A 74-year-old visitor from Dorset presented on a Friday morning with a complicated UTI case and no access to her usual GP or a willing local practice. The patient, allergic to most antibiotics and at risk of kidney infection, had been turned away by multiple pharmacies and GPs. The Barntons team persisted, navigating bureaucracy, liaising with her GP in England and even considering private care. Thanks to their determination and foresight in preordering the correct antibiotic, the patient avoided a costly and unnecessary A&E visit and was treated with compassion and professionalism.

These outcomes are only possible through a whole team approach. Barntons Pharmacy embodies what partnership in practice looks like: joined-up communication, patient first thinking and shared responsibility across pharmacy, general practice and specialist care.

For their compassionate care, pioneering service delivery and commitment to collaborative healthcare, Barntons Pharmacy and Travel Clinic are worthy recipients of the 2025 Working in Partnership Award.
