KINWELL PHARMACY REDEFINING COMMUNITY CARE THROUGH DIGITAL INNOVATION
W
inners of the 2025 Innovation in Community Pharmacy Practice Award, KinWell Pharmacy in Nairn have
distinguished themselves as trailblazers in digital healthcare. With the development and implementation of their pioneering Quick Care platform, the team, led by Mohsin Mian, Fahed Arshad, Hasan Mian and Iftikar Mian, has reimagined the traditional Pharmacy First model, bringing a new level of accessibility, efficiency and patient safety to community pharmacy practice.
At the core of their innovation is Quick Care, the UK’s first-ever digital Pharmacy First tool, designed and built entirely in-house. This kiosk- based solution allows patients to confidentially input their symptoms, which are then assessed and securely forwarded to the pharmacist’s dashboard. The result? A faster, more discreet and more efficient consultation process.
Since its launch, Quick Care has revolutionised patient engagement. Between October and

November alone, Pharmacy First consultations increased by 96%, with over 50% now initiated through Quick Care. This remarkable uptake reflects not only the system’s user-friendly design but also its ability to meet patients where they are, especially those who might be hesitant to speak about personal health issues in public.
One such example is a young patient with a urinary tract infection (UTI) who felt uncomfortable discussing their symptoms face- to-face. Thanks to Quick Care’s private interface, the patient was able to access care confidently and quickly, without embarrassment. In another case, an elderly patient with a minor skin infection who had planned to visit their GP was introduced to the service and treated directly through the pharmacy, alleviating pressure on local NHS services.
The Quick Care system is integrated with the pharmacy’s PMR, enabling real-time access to medication history, automatic eligibility checks for
Pharmacy First and instant documentation. This has resulted in an additional 100 hours saved per month in pharmacist consultation time, freeing up capacity for more complex cases and higher- quality patient care.
Crucially, Quick Care also ensures compliance and governance. Only treatments approved under Pharmacy First can be selected, with automated audit trails capturing every step of the consultation process. This provides a new level of transparency and safety, which has not only improved care standards but has also strengthened regulatory adherence.
Behind this digital success story lies a clear vision and deep collaboration. The technical development was led by Fahed Arshad, working closely with Mohsin Mian to ensure the platform aligned with pharmacy workflows and clinical best practice. Extensive testing and structured staff training ensured a smooth rollout. Patients were educated through in-store posters, staff
