Meanwhile, for active controls, it always encourages building owners to implement renewable energy (photovoltaic panels and wind turbines), use smart responsive sensors and recycle resources on-site (rainwater and heating/cooling water). In addition, Budi also emphasised on the importance of using environmentally friendly materials that are non- toxic and reused/recycled, as well as offer durability and low embodied energy.

Hence, the inaugural session of FuturArc Exchange & Exhibitions (FEX) Premium was conducted online on 25 February 2021, with corporate partner Mapei Indonesia. Organised by BCI Asia, the event showcased ecologically sensitive products and technologies with core topics on Green design ideas and projects. It attracted active industry professionals, thought leaders and decision-makers who are all passionate about a sustainable built environment and future. Anton Adianto (BCI Asia Indonesia – Publishing) moderated the session, which was attended by more than 140 participants.
Reducing energy consumption Budi Sumaatmadja, founder and principal of Anggara Architeam, presented on low-waste buildings by highlighting one of their signature projects, Indonesia 1. It is one of the tallest buildings in Jakarta, and is seeking to obtain the highest certification from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), Singapore.
Anggara Architeam is a well-known architectural consultant in Indonesia that handles many large-scale and high-rise buildings. It has also received the BCI Asia Top 10 Architects award consecutively for the past few years.
During the webinar, Budi presented solutions for high-rise and commercially sustainable buildings. He elaborated on four challenges that architects experience with regards to the ongoing environmental crisis: global population growth, depleting natural resources, environmental damage and loss of biodiversity.
Carbon emissions from buildings and construction constitute almost 40 per cent of global carbon emissions1. Energy use in buildings includes operational energy at 68 per cent and embodied energy making up for the rest. For this reason, Anggara Architeam aims to initiate several

In line with commercially sustainable buildings, Mapei Indonesia presented on the theme of Aesthetical & Sustainable Flooring Solutions. George Jeffrey, Specification Engineer of Mapei Indonesia, elaborated on the importance of globally certified environmentally friendly products for sustainable architectural and construction projects all over the world, including in Indonesia. He gave examples of industrial and aesthetic flooring product solutions. The strength and durability provided by floor coating products from Mapei Indonesia also indirectly support the efficiency of flooring materials.
