TWO UK TOURISTS ARRESTED IN MAGALUF AFTER CABBIE BEATEN

Two British tourists, aged 21 and 22, have been arrested for reportedly brutally battering a taxi driver in Magaluf. The vicious beating occurred during the early hours of 23 August in the notorious Majorca party hotspot. Witnesses claimed the confrontation started when three young men jumped on the bonnet of the taxi driver’s vehicle. Violence flared and the taxi driver was allegedly badly beaten. He suffered a barrage of blows and kicks to his head and body during the vicious assault, which only ceased when the young men noticed witnesses were filming the incident on mobile phones. The taxi driver was left unconscious on the ground and the attackers fled. Witnesses claimed the men were drunk and covered in blood when they fled the scene and officers from the local Guardia Civil have started an investigation. A 21-year-old Briton was later detained, while a second has been identified. Police are trying to locate him and another accomplice. Taxi drivers in the resort halted services for a time in protest and out of respect for their colleague. It is the latest violent incident in the resort, which is desperate to shed its boozy image. A series of new laws, including banning pub crawls and unlimited drinks at some all- inclusive hotels, are being enforced. Local authorities have stated the booze-fuelled antics of young holidaymakers from the UK over decades are no longer welcome and have even deployed elite police armed with rifles to crackdown on drunk holidaymakers.

years in prison, however, his sentence was reduced to 13 years 9 months after he pleaded guilty. The victim, a 17 year old girl, had been in Bangkok seeking a job. She told police her aunt made a Facebook post to try to help her find one. Adirek then commented on the post and said he would employ her. He used a photo of someone else for his profile picture. Adirek reportedly drove to the girl’s house and said he would drive her to the employer. But instead, he took her to a ‘love motel.’ There, he told her to wait in a hotel room to take an antigen test. He came back to the room, handcuffed her, raped her, and photographed the incident on his phone. Adirek then stole the girl’s phone and 500 baht in cash, before taking her to the Klong Tan police station. Once at the station, Adirek told the police the girl was an illegal migrant with no passport and left. Adirek has now admitted to the charge of rape. Other charges include: depriving a person under 18 of liberty, obscenity, illegal detention, theft, and illegal possession of child pornography for personal gain. He was ordered to pay 351,760 baht plus interest in compensation to the victim.

PUPIL ALLEGEDLY PAID DURBAN CABBIE WITH UNDERWEAR

A taxi driver was left confused after a pupil allegedly paid him with a g-string in Durban city. A radio host took to Facebook to share the incident. His caption read: “A taxi driver from Makhutha is still shocked after he was paid with a panty, a g-string, instead of money. This act was done by a pupil in eThekwini.” In a clip, a man, believed to be the taxi driver, said: “Guys, here’s a panty I was paid with by my sister on Field (Street), when getting off the vehicle. What hurts is that it’s a pupil. I don’t know what she is trying to say or do by this. I really don’t know. I was left confused.” South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) provincial office manager said that the incident left a lot of unanswered questions.
