QUESTION FOR CAB OPERATORS NOW

charging account cards and a live view of which charging points are actually available to use will also get resolved

• Until this year, there have been few affordable EV models that are typically used as ‘workhorse’ cabs, the Nissan Leaf a notable exception. Most have been either at the premium saloon end or family hatch- backs, but now we’re seeing car manufacturers expanding their EV models with even an electric Mer- cedes 8-seater out on the road. Most manufacturers are committing to at least half their models going electric within the next three years, priced at the same level as their petrol/diesel counterparts.

This last point on pricing is a key one. Yes, for a fleet that’s financially recovering from the pandemic, EVs are currently more expensive to buy…but they are cheaper to run. The cost of charging is at least half that of filling up at a petrol pump, with no road tax, typically lower servicing costs and of course, no Congestion/Low Emission Zone charges. Indeed, those cunning cab operators who reflect these lower running costs in

more competitive EV cab fares can generate a faster, better return on investment.

With this approach in mind, minicabit is launching sev- eral tools in its award winning platform to empower local cab firms, regardless of their size or location, to efficiently make the transition to EVs. With over 800 licensed cab operators on our network, from London to Inverness, Southend to Swansea, we want to see every fleet benefit from the EV revolution. For instance, we’ll be factoring in relevant charging point locations into our bookings amongst many other exciting features!
