BELFAST-BASED FONACAB INVEST IN AN ELECTRIC FUTURE

FonaCAB, Northern Ireland’s biggest taxi company, has taken delivery of two new Tesla Model 3 fully electric cars worth more than £80,000. The cars will be ad- ded to the fonaCAB fleet and will soon be seen around the streets of Greater Belfast collecting and dropping off passengers. The same vehicle delivery included a

variety of new Toy- ota low emission petrol electric hy- brid Camry cars which will also be seen shortly sport- ing a fonaCAB roof sign. FonaCAB already has a fully electric Tesla Model S and several electric Nis- san Leafs on their fleet. This is comple- mented by an in- creasing range of hybrid

vehicles

including Toyota’s Prius and Corolla models. The Model S has completed over 100,000 trouble free miles with fonaCAB and this has encour- aged the company to invest further in

new additions say- ing: “At present, most taxis run on diesel and while they

are clean-

er and more efficient than ever, the car market

is

moving to- wards

an

electric fut- ure and we are investi- gating opt- ions for do- ing the same. These new Tesla Model 3

electric vehicles are

emission free and if they return the same economy as the Model S we have been trialling,

it

could save their drivers over £100 per week on fuel costs. This com-

bined with lower maintenance costs makes

them an

attractive proposi- tion for any cost conscious taxi driv- er. The Model 3 has a range of up to 348 miles but even in Standard Plus form will do up to 254 miles on a single charge – more than enough for most drivers’ days. Passengers will see the benefits as well. Electric

vehicles

have no exhaust resulting in cleaner air, and with virtual- ly silent running can make for quieter city centres – a bonus especially at night.”
