GLASGOWTAXI DRIVER SCARRED FOR LIFE IN FRENZIED KNIFE ATTACK YARDS FROM HOME

A taxi driver has been left scarred for life after being stabbed multiple times in Glasgow. Sajid Javed, 36, was slashed across his left ear and suf- fered

multiple

wounds to his arms and back after the horror attack yards from his house in Govan at around 4:20am on August bank holiday Sun- day morning. He was rushed by ambulance to hos- pital for surgery. In

the days since, he was resting at home “in a state of shock” as his devastated wife fears knife crime is on the rise in the area. Shazia recalled the traumatising mo- ment her husband collapsed, soaked in blood, outside their house after driving away from the scene. She told Glasgow Live: “He left his keys in the ignition and got out.

I watched him fall

es to wounds in his back, arms and a five-inch slash run- ning from his left ear to the side of his eye.

It’s not

known how long he will be out of work. She added: “It’s awful. The doctors did what they could but he has been left with

permanent down on the

ground. There was so much blood. It was terrifying. I was screaming

and

shouting and my neighbours came out to help.” Shazia told how Sajid needed stitch-

damage to his hands and ears. “He has been lying down a lot and not speaking

very

much. We don’t know when he can

go back to his job. “Our

friends

family and are

so

upset.” Shazia fears knife crime has become a rising

problem

among youths in Govan in recent months. Two men have been charged in connec- tion with a serious assault. Southside Private Hire confirm they are aware of the incident and are in touch with Sajid’s family.

NEIGHBOURS TELL HOW THEY RUSHED TO SAVE STABBED TAXI DRIVER IN BIRMINGHAM

Residents have told of how they carried out emergency first aid on a taxi driver who had been stabbed multiple times in Birming- ham. Families who live in Saxelby

Close,

Druids Heath, said they rushed out- side when they heard the stricken cabbie crying out for help. They administered first aid until ambu- lances arrived and also comforted the man. Bi rminghamLive reports that the incident happened at around 11pm on Saturday night 24 August after the

34

driver was lured to a fare in the road. One of the neigh- bours

said: “At

about 11.15pm my wife and I heard someone crying out ‘help me, help me’. “I looked out the window and saw two lads running away from a taxi and

someone

shouting ‘Help me please, please help me’. “We went outside and saw this bloke struggling towards us, covered from head to toe in blood.” He said he knocked on his next-door neighbour’s door because he knew he was trained in

first aid. “My neighbour and his wife and their daughter came out and we all took care of the man,” he said. “We cut his top off and saw that he’d been stabbed many times. “He had three wounds in his neck, four in his back and four in his arm. The wounds in his arm were the worst, really bad. “My

stemmed

neighbour the

bleeding and put gauzes on, I kept talking to the ambulance people who were telling us what to do, and everyone else was

comforting the guy. “He was conscious and told us what happened. He said he’d been called to a job in our close and when he got there this guy was waiting for him. “He got in the cab in the passenger side and started stabbing him re- peatedly, and then grabbed his cash and mobile phone.” The neighbour said his wife had found the weapon used - a knife similar to a cheese knife with a six-inch blade. “He told us he was 43 years old and had a family and made me ring his daughter to tell her

what happened to him,” he said. “The paramedics told us there was a very bad cut to a nerve on his right hand

and his

injuries might be life-changing.” The injured cabbie worked for Ambas- sador Cars in Kings Heath. A woman there told Birming- hamLive that the cabbie, whose first name is Sajid, was a very popular and l o n g - s t a n d i n g member of staff. “He’s worked with us for ages and is the nicest, most laid-back man you’ll ever meet,”

the

woman said. “He’s been released

from hospital and is back

recovering

doing ok.” She said it was the first attack on a driver since starting work there ten years ago. “It’s shaken up all the drivers and they’re all really wary about working the night shift now. They’re easy tar- gets because they carry cash and they don’t know what they’re driving into. “We’re like one big family here and this has hit us hard. “Sajid is in a lot of discomfort

and

pain, but at least he’s back at home with his family.”
