BRISTOL TAXICOP CATCHES UNLICENSED MAN DRIVING TAXI WITH PASSENGERS ONBOARD
PC Patrick Quinton - Bristol Taxicop caught an unlicensed man driving a taxi with passengers on board. PC Quinton said: “Good evening all, at Colliters Way earlier I found this taxi with passengers on board
being driven by an unlicensed driver. “This means he was uninsured so I've had it towed away. “Further enforcement action to be taken against BOTH driver and operator. Have a safe shift.”
FOUR INJURED AS TAXI CRASHES INTO GROUP OF PEDESTRIANS IN GLASGOW CITY CENTRE
A taxi collision with pedestrians in Glasgow City Centre on Saturday afternoon 5 October resulted in injuries to four people. The incident occurred around 1:50pm on Union Street, near Glasgow Central Station. A black cab is believed to have mounted the sidewalk, striking pedestrians. Emergency
services, including
police, paramedics, and fire- fighters, responded to the scene.
Three people, including the taxi driver, were transported to local hospitals. A fourth person was assessed by paramedics but did not require hospitalisation. Road closures were put in place in the area to allow for investigations. The taxi driver, 62, has been charged with road traffic offences and will appear in court at a later date.
15 OUT OF 17 LOCAL CABBIES
A joint operation by South Cam- bridgeshire DC and Cambridge- shire Constabulary has revealed widespread safety concerns among local taxi drivers. Of the 17 taxis and PHVs inspected, only two were found to be fully compliant with licensing con- ditions, the rest were either sent advisory letters or issued with penalty points on their council- issued licence. The checks included making sure that driver badges were displayed, door signage was in place, and that taxis were equipped with a first aid kit and fire extinguisher.

FAIL SAFETY CHECKS IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE However,
numerous violations
were uncovered, ranging from minor infractions to more serious breaches of safety regulations. Two drivers were caught parking illegally on double yellow lines, with one even disregarding a “no parking at any time” sign at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Another driver was issued a fixed penalty notice for failing to wear a seatbelt when not carrying passengers. One vehicle was found to have illegal window tints of 49.6% instead of 75% minimum light. The vehicle’s licence was immediately suspended, and the driver was
given 14 days to rectify the issue. A South Cambs Council spokes- person said: “Most drivers were cooperative, but two had a poor attitude towards council and police officers, leading to one driver being cautioned by the police. Their suitability to hold a licence may lead to a referral to the Taxi Licensing Sub-Committee.” South Cambs Neighbourhood Sergeant, Rob Taylor, said: “It was disappointing to see the majority of taxis checked during the operation were not meeting the required standards These checks will continue throughout the year.”
