Your support is what makes it possible for us to continue in our endeavours: more financial secu- rity for our trade, more legal education, more impact on Government at national and local level. Our motto - to raise standards in the trade, both actual and as perceived by the public - says it all. People tell us it’s working...but don’t take our word for it - listen to our members!
So there you have it: that’s what your National Association does for your trade. When we first set up this Association, it was decreed that the one and only requirement for membership was that the applicant has to hold a licence; this still holds true today. For the longest time we have been attracting membership from not only pri- vate hire, executive and chauffeur companies, but increasing numbers of hackney carriage proprietors and local hackney associations. The point is, we’re out there battling for everyone.
We feel it is important to clarify that this Associa- tion is not a union: we do not inflict policy on our members, or insist that they act or behave in a certain way. Actually we are a representative body, putting forward the collective and individual views and positions of our members to Govern- ment departments, agencies and regulators, and anybody who will listen to the industry’s voice.

So this is what our Association is all about, across the whole of the industry: to raise stan- dards in the trade, both actual and as perceived by the public. We are here to advise, to educate, to assist any member who requires assistance... or if we can’t help directly, to put them in touch with a Man or Woman Who Can, in their particu- lar specialist field.
Our association exists solely through member- ships and renewals. Your support is what keeps our doors open, and makes it possible for us to continue in our endeavours – which a lot of peo- ple tell us are worthwhile. Have a look at what people say...
Odette Ottaway, A1A Taxis Ltd., Welwyn Hatfield:-
“As a trade association representing companies and individual members within our district, the support, advice and knowledge we are given by the NPHA is so valuable. The National Associa- tion has a great understanding of the mechanics of our industry, and without them our livelihoods would be jeopardised by draconian councils and misguided legislation. The NPHA is the (not so) silent insurance policy for our trade.”
John Skipper, A10 Taxis Ely:-
It’s as much of an education to learn what a licensing authority cannot do, as what they can... We’ve been working very closely with the NPHA over the past couple of years, and the experience has been nothing but positive and enlightening. If you have the slightest query or misunderstanding about anything to do with the trade, I suggest you join the Association; the fog will lift immediately.”
