hedge. How undignified...! Police are probably still hunting for this 14ft long creature... Right, down to business: The runner-up position in this category must go to an individual who pushes himself to the absolute limit for children’s charity fundraising: Ray Woodcock of Southend. This 71-year old great-grandfather was featured in our August issue when we first extolled the virtues of his extensive charity ac- tivities: anything from climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, to scaling volca- noes, to skydiving, wing walking, white water rafting, you name it. Then in the September issue we reported on Ray’s latest suc- cessful endeavour: a 400-foot bungee jump down into a quarry in Chepstow, again raising funds for the taxi Drivers’ Charity Fund for Children. This guy should also win an award in our Awarding Achievement category, don’t you think?! Tell you what, though – we chose a rather different winner for this year’s focus on different-ness: the Lottery-funded cabbie shel- ters as featured in our August edition. What is wonderful about these remaining 13 shelters in the capital, is that they are able now to maintain a tradition that was established over 130 years ago: looking after London’s cabbies in all weathers, and giving the public a chance to view inside these iconic edifices. Long may it continue.

Adjacent is the story we reported on in August’s edition on page 26.
