FREE PARKING
It is now a horrendous issue - our ranks being used as free parking and we

We also spoke about how the local cab trade can work closely with the police in the same way as we did going back a few years, as the trade is the ‘Eyes & Ears’ in the city and it is important for the local police and drivers to have a working relationship.
LOCAL ENFORCEMENT
At our last Trade Forum meeting in January, we had a Local Enforcement Report which gave details of the joint enforcement operation in the city carried out by Sussex Police, the DVSA and Brighton & Hove Licensing. These have now become quite a regular occurrence which we fully support.
However, once again, and very disappointingly, there was a disproportionate amount of locally licensed cars being pulled over, and some even required to pull off a rank compared to the number of out-of-town cars that predominately work here.
It was acknowledged that this was probably because locally licensed hackney
carriage
vehicles and private hire vehicles are much easier to identify…..

council to be more robust in taking action on this. Effectively if someone sat at a council employee’s desk and stopped them from working, I am sure that there would be swift action taken on this.
The video taken of the above example can be seen here:
tinyurl.com/hovestation20012023 where the Hove Station rank is full of private cars which happened on a Friday morning rendering the rank inoperable.
However, have a look at this video in which a cab driver had just dropped people off after a few moments of taking the payment via card and a traffic warden logs the taxi driver for being stationary on double yellow lines yet frustratingly ignores a private vehicle parked nearby on the same double yellow lines:

I must again make the point that we consider ourselves to be extremely lucky in that we have an extremely good one-to-one working relationship with licensing and our councillors compared to other areas.
So onwards and upwards…. This Oodie is fantastic!
