BELFAST TAXI DRIVER ROBBED AT KNIFEPOINT BY THREE MEN IN TERRIFYING ORDEAL

A Belfast taxi driver in his 40s has endured a ‘terrifying ordeal’ after he was reportedly robbed at knifepoint whilst picking up a fare. Police say it was reported that around 11pm on Friday night, January 13, the driver arrived in the Brookhill Avenue area of North

Belfast to collect a fare when three men got into his vehicle. DS McCartan explained: “One of the men in the rear of the car grabbed the victim by the neck, before the man in the front passenger seat produced a knife and demanded money.

“The three suspects left the area on foot in the direction of Cliftonville Road. “Thankfully, the victim did not report any physical injuries but this was a terrifying ordeal for someone trying to go about their business.”

UBER DRIVER STABBED IN THE SHOULDER AND CHEST AND HAD VEHICLE STOLEN IN LEEDS

An Uber driver was stabbed in the shoulder and chest in Leeds on the night of Friday 27 January. The driver managed to escape but the thug drove off in his PHV and crashed it into two vehicles close to Leeds Railway Station. The suspect was then seen bouncing on the top of vehicles before being handcuffed on the road by police.

West Yorkshire Police said Pablo Hernandez, from Leeds, was arrested over events which began in Chapeltown, and continued to Aire Street in the city centre where the vehicle was involved in a road traffic collision and members of the public were assaulted. All of the victims have

since been treated and released from hospital.

Hernandez was charged with Section 18 wounding with intent, attempted Section 18 wounding with intent, assault occasioning ABH, aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving. He appeared in Leeds Magistrates Court on January 30 and was remanded in custody until February 27.

BURY PRIVATE HIRE DRIVER HELD AT KNIFEPOINT BEFORE HIS VEHICLE WAS STOLEN

A private hire driver has been left traumatised after being held at knifepoint in Bury before his cab was stolen early on New Year’s Eve. Tanveer Jaffery took a job with Elton Bullitt Taxis and when he arrived at the address, a man got in the front passenger side of the car and put a knife on Mr Jaffery’s neck, Raja Naveed Aijaz, vice chairman of the Bury Private Hire Driver’s Association, said. Speaking on behalf of Mr Jaffrey Mr Aijaz said: “The male had a knife in his hand, he put it on Mr Jaffery’s neck and told him he should leave the vehicle and take his mobile

phone and taxi tracking device with him, and if he resists he will be slaughtered with this knife. “Mr Jaffery did not resist and handed the car keys to the culprit who drove off from the scene.” The driver then managed to contact other cabbies to warn them and phoned the police. On Sunday a driver phoned Mr Aijaz to say he’d spotted the vehicle. Mr Aijaz continued: “We saw that it was the correct vehicle and had damage on the left wing and tyre. Residents said the car had been there for two days, so it was left on the same day it was stolen.”

The terrifying experience has

deeply affected Mr Jaffery who said: “I’ve not just suffered income loss on a very busy festive period but have also gone through a lot of mental stress and trauma. My whole family was very disturbed and the car is still in being repaired.”

The incident has also shaken other taxi drivers across Bury. Mr Aijaz added: “This is a knife crime which should be taken very seriously as it is a threat to everyone. Anyone can book a cab and jump in with a knife, he could have killed him.
