..SPHA NEWS...SPHA NEWS SPHA LAUNCHES PROJECT 365
VOWING TO TACKLE ISSUES AFFECTING THE TRADE
The SPHA has announced the launch of what it is calling “Project 365”, vowing to tackle 365 unique issues affecting the private hire trade over the course of the next year. The SPHA says it will be sending a letter every single day throughout 2023 to various organisations and authorities dealing with a unique problem each day. In a statement made by SPHA General Secretary, Eddie Grice, the first five letters of the year covering January 1st to 5th have been drafted and sent out on Thursday (Jan 5th). The areas being covered thus far are: • writing to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service seeking their stance and opinion on fire extinguishers in private hire cars
• writing to Glasgow City Council regarding resident parking permits for drivers that rent their PHCs
• writing to Edinburgh Council requesting it to consider allowing safety screens to be fitted in PHCs to protect against violence
• writing to multiple councils to complain about
potholes and to warn that the SPHA will be assisting their members in making claims for damages
• writing, again, to Glasgow City Council to lodge a complaint over its festive advertising. It is being argued by the association that the festive adverts released by the council unfairly neglected to include pre-booked private hire as an option for revellers to get home after a night out. Mr Grice said: “Every day for the next year we will target a unique problem, issue or concern facing the private hire trade. This will be additional to our regular campaigning and lobbying efforts. This will mean that by the start of 2024 we will have tackled over 365 issues for our members and for the wider trade. “2022 was mostly about building foundations and networking. 2023 is where the SPHA kicks into top gear and deals with the multitude of problems that drivers are facing out there: licensing, road safety, driver safety, vehicle issues, absolutely any problem the trade experiences is on our radar ... so watch this space.”
