A suspect has appeared in court after three women in their late teens reported being sexually assaulted during late-night taxi journeys.

Zaheer Hussain, aged 43, has been charged with three counts of sexual assault relating to incidents in Nottingham

on 23 April 2022, Alfreton on 21 July 2022, and Broxtowe on 1 January 2023. Hussain, from Nottingham, appeared at Nottingham Magis- trates’ Court on 11 January and was bailed to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 8 February.

DS Laura Gooch, of Notting- hamshire Police, said: “Sexual assaults have a profound impact on victims, and I am pleased we have been able to identify a suspect in this case. “Our investigations into what happened will continue in the weeks ahead.”

BURTON CABBIE’S DANGEROUS OVERTAKE CAUSED CRASH LEAVING WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED

A taxi driver caused a head-on crash leaving a woman with serious injuries when he attempted to overtake a tractor. Sajid Mahmood, 53, tried to get ahead of a tractor and its trailer while travelling down Swepstone Road in Measham on Friday, September 24 2021. The tractor and trailer was around 18ft long and was approaching a bend when Mahmood, from Branston, Burton-on-Trent, carried out the manoeuvre, smashing into a Skoda on the other side of the road. A 79-year-old woman, who was in the passenger seat of the Skoda, suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital.

A man who was driving the Skoda and Mahmood’s passenger, a woman, was also injured in the crash. The 79-year-old has since been

discharged from hospital. Leicestershire Police attended the scene and, after speaking to witnesses, charged Mahmood with causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He pleaded guilty to the charge in court and was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday, January, 11. The police are now warning of the potential dangers of overtaking while driving. Officer in the case, Police Constable Anthony Brewin said: “Mahmood’s actions to try and get ahead on the road led to a woman suffering serious

injuries and being airlifted to hospital. “I know that the injuries caused have had a significant impact on the victim and my thoughts do remain with her. “Overtaking a vehicle while driving can be extremely dangerous if not carried out in the correct and safe manner – as this incident has shown. “Please ensure that you always only ever overtake when it is safe and legal to do so, that the road is sufficiently clear ahead and that there is a suitable gap in front of the road user you plan to overtake.” The 53-year-old was sentenced to 14 months behind bars, suspended for two years and handed a three-year driving ban. Mahmood was also ordered to carry 210 hours of unpaid work over the next year and will be on a three-month curfew between 7pm and 7am.
