TELFORD MAN LOCKED UP FOR RAPE FOR SIX AND A HALF YEARS WAS WORKING AS A TAXI DRIVER

A Telford man convicted of rape was a taxi driver in the area, it has been confirmed. According to the Shropshire star, Paul Kofi Manu Aboagyewaa raped a woman in Wellington, near Telford, in December last year. It has now been confirmed that the 58- year-old, of Hadley Manor, was working as a taxi driver when he attacked the woman.

He was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison at Shrewsbury Crown Court after plead- ing guilty to rape on Thursday 10 March.

He has also been added to the sex

offenders register. Pc Billy Barrett of West Mercia Police said: “We welcome the sentence that has been handed to Aboagyewaa, and I would also like to commend and thank the victim for her bravery and cooperation during what I am sure has been a truly traumatic and harrowing ordeal for both herself and her family.”

LONDON PRIVATE HIRE DRIVER TRAVELLED TO SWINDON TO RAPE AND ABUSE 9-YEAR-OLD GIRL

A PHV driver from London travelled to Swindon with the intention to rape and sexually abuse a 9-year-old girl. According to the Swindon Advertiser, Brian William Smith had been speaking to a person online he thought was a mother who was going to allow him to rape her nine-year-old daughter. But it turned out to be an undercover police officer, who arrested him as he

arrived at Swindon train station, armed with Vaseline and condoms.

Smith, appearing in the courtroom via video link from HMP Bullingdon, was tearful throughout much of the sentencing hearing, having

NOTTINGHAM PHV DRIVER WATCHED FOOTBALL WHILST DRIVING NOW FACES LOSING LICENCE

A Nottingham PH driver faces losing his licence after video footage emerged of him appearing to watch a football match with a passenger in his car. The Nottingham Post reports that Jezz Heald, 57, had booked DG Cars to take him home at 7.30pm on March 10. He claims his driver was watching a foot- ball match on the monitor at the front of the car and this stayed on through- out his journey. Wolverhampton City Council has now confirmed the driver in question is registered with the authority and it is investigating the matter. Greg Bickerdike, licensing manager, said: “This is a disturbing piece of footage which would appear to fall way

below the standards of behaviour we insist upon from our licensed drivers. “We have contacted the driver’s opera- tor and he has been immediately suspended, the matter will be investi- gated and appropriate action, which could include revocation of the licence, will be taken if the driver is found to have breached licensing conditions.” A spokesperson for DG Cars said: “All drivers attend training before they start with us that includes safety first. No eat- ing, using mobile phones, or anything which may distract them from driving. “We pride ourselves on being the only PH company in East Midlands with a Training Department that trains every driver before they start working with us.

pleaded guilty at an earlier occasion. On Friday 18 March, Swindon Crown Court heard that the 67-year-old had made contact with the undercover police officer online in December 2021. He made “the first move” and asked the woman about her daughter, prose- cutor Rob Welling said. “The defendant increased the stakes and the odds. He encouraged her to allow him to have access to the fiction- al child so she could perform sex acts on them.” After about two weeks, Smith agreed to travel from Enfield to Swindon, to meet the mother and her daughter. When he arrived at the station, police officers were waiting to arrest him. “He was instantly apologetic upon arrest at the train station and was very frank in his interview, expecting there to be oral sex, there to be sexual inter- course, to be sharing a bed [with both girls],” Mr Welling continued. Sentencing, Recorder Adam Vaitilingam QC said that Smith “obvi- ously believed that this was going to lead to a sexual encounter”. He jailed Smith for two years and eight months for arranging the commission of a child sex offence, and a 12-month concurrent sentence for attempting to cause a child under 13 to look at an image of sexual activity.
