GLASGOW WOMAN PUNCHED TAXI DRIVER AFTER FALLING ASLEEP IN HIS CAR AND SPAT AT COP

A drunk woman punched a taxi driver as he attempted to rouse her after falling asleep in his car. According to the Scottish Sun, Claire Reid, 29, lashed out at Gary Christie in May 2021. She later spat at a police officer who was able to dodge the spittle. She pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday 4 February, to assault- ing Mr Christie and PC Kirsty McGlynn. The court heard that Mr Christie picked

up Reid and another man at 4.50am. Reid entered the car while “heavily intoxi- cated” and then fell asleep during the journey. The man exited the taxi in order to pay before returning. Prosecutor Emma Baker said: Mr Christie attempted to rouse Miss Reid

to get her to exit the taxi. “When she woke up she immediately became volatile, lunged at Mr Christie and punched Mr Christie on the head.” A 999 call was made as the man dragged Reid away. Police later caught up with them and arrested her. After deferring sentencing pending background reports, Sheriff Iain Fleming ordered Reid, from Glasgow, to do 135 hours of unpaid work.

DRUNKEN PASSENGER FIRED RACIST SLURS AT PERTH CABBIE AFTER GETTING STUCK IN HIS CAB

A drunken woman racially abused a Perth taxi driver after she got stuck inside his cab. The Courier reports that Hayley Donaldson, 26, from Stirling, appeared at Perth Sheriff Court on Monday 7 March, and admitted “pursu- ing a racially aggravated course of conduct amounting to harassment”. She pleaded guilty to a second charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm. Sheriff Francis Gill told her: “You have

indicated that you are deeply ashamed and so you should be.” Donaldson was fined £450. Fiscal depute Elizabeth Hodgson said cabbie Ali Sikender picked up four people at 11pm on July 30. “During the journey, the cabbie was asked to take a detour but refused saying he was too busy.

“The accused became agitated and demanded to be let out of the taxi and told the driver he would not be paid. “When the accused could not open her door easily, she said to the driver: ‘Let me out you black b*****d’. When Donaldson was told to leave the cab, she called the driver a “black mongo,” a “black b*****d” and a “black c***.” The group walked away, and the driver reported the incident to police who later traced the accused.

DRUNK WOMAN WHO RACIALLY ABUSED INVERNESS CABBIE ORDERED TO PAY HIM COMPENSATION

An Alness woman who drunkenly assaulted and hurled racist abuse at a taxi driver has been ordered to pay him compensation. According to The Press and Journal, Jessica Crawford, 31, had been on a night out in Inverness when she fell out with her intoxicated friend as they climbed into the back of a taxi on December 22 last year. Fiscal depute Karen Poke said the driver asked them to leave his cab but Crawford refused, told him to “shut up” and shouted racial abuse at him, includ-

ing using the “N-word”. Then, when the cabbie threw her out of his cab she launched her- self at him, swinging her arms and striking his face. “She was pushed away and police were called,” the fiscal added. “Crawford was traced, heavily intoxi- cated, and arrested.” Crawford admitted acting in a racially

aggravated manner and assaulting the cabbie by striking him on the face. Now she must pay him compensation for that “shocking behaviour” after being sentenced, following the produc- tion of background reports, at Inverness Sheriff Court. Sheriff Robert Frazer accepted she had “shown a considerable amount of contrition”. “But your behaviour on that night was nothing short of disgraceful,” he added. She was fined £320 and must pay her victim £100 in compensation.
