region. National and international work by CILIP is important but some of the work with greatest impact happens locally, in our own communities.”
Active membership As with all of CILIP’s member networks and special interest groups, Regional Member Networks are free to join. And CILIP members are not limited to the number of networks they can join. The new Midlands Network serves library and information professionals studying, living and/or working in Derbyshire, Herefordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. We also cover the non-metropolitan districts of Birmingham, Coventry, Derby, Dudley, Leicester, Nottingham, Rutland, Sandwell, Solihull, Stoke-on-Trent, Telford & Wrekin, Walsall and Wolverhampton.
David says that there are lots of ways to get involved – but urges anyone signing up to SIGs or MNs to ensure their email preferences are up to date so they can receive news about events and training. But for anyone looking to become more active in the net- work, there will always be roles available.
Can you lend a hand?
It couldn’t be easier to help out with the new CILIP Midlands Network:
1. You could share the CILIP Midlands newsletter as widely as possible with your colleagues and network contacts. CILIP members can sign up for the newsletter by changing your email subscription preferences at
www.cilip.org.uk/ManageyourMem- bership and non-members can register to receive a CILIP Mid- lands Supporters Newsletter at
https://tinyurl.com/CILIPmidlands.
2. Help to build the CILIP Midlands programme by sharing your thoughts with
chair.midlands@cilip.org.uk Ideas captured so far include:
Jonathan Davies MP with David Byrne. l recruit additional members to reflect geographic spread;
l share a welcome message and offer induction to all new Network joiners;
l develop our Training Group, planning and delivering Net- work Meetings, ad hoc events, mentoring, induction, candidate support and grants or bursaries.
David adds: “Wherever you are based and whatever your sector or career stage we are interested in hearing from you with your ideas on how we can develop our network and develop your impact. If you are interested in building your network and joining a friendly team then you could join the CILIP Midlands commit- tee. Just drop a line to me, David Byrne (CILIP Midlands Interim Chair) at
chair.midlands@cilip.org.uk and I will get back to you.” IP
