This modules aims to: l Support learners in understanding the role of the library as a portal for digital access and how they, as emerging and aspiring leaders, can help facilitate this role;


l demonstrate how digital skills and knowledge link to the goals and values of libraries, including equity and inclusion, ethics, and being a safe and supportive space for all;


l equip learners with the strategic skills and confidence needed to contribute to digital transformation in their libraries;


l help learners understand the role of digital trends and tech- nologies including AI and explore their potential impact on the delivery of the library services.


Futures Literacy This modules aims to:


l help learners understand the concept and benefits of Futures Literacy in the planning and delivery of their work in public libraries;

Futures Literacy is a relatively new field for libraries and so the aim for this was to make it digestible and applicable to public libraries in the UK.

l provide learners with tools to support the development of agile strategies for future development;


l help learners recognise the value of imagination and creativity in improving resilience and the ability to navigate uncertainty;


l help learners practice testing their own library strategies against future scenarios.


This training is aimed at all emerging and aspiring leaders in public libraries in England, and applications will need to be supported by your head of service or line manager. Digital Skills for Leadership aims to provide an accessible way for future leaders to gain confidence and skills in thinking strategically about digital technologies and implementing effective strategies for new and emerging technologies that support their library’s goals.


“So, while the driver of the project might be sector requirements


(via the Come Rain or Shine report), the training is designed to be useful for those in the sector who want to develop their skills and knowledge in order to advance their careers and ultimately move into leadership roles. “Digital Skills for Leadership aims to provide an accessible


way for future leaders to gain confidence and skills in thinking strategically about digital technologies and implementing effec- tive strategies for new and emerging technologies that support their library’s goals. This includes strategies for helping staff build their digital confidence, creating safe spaces for learning and supporting digital inclusion in the community. “Futures Literacy is an introduction to both the UNESCO Futures


Literacy framework and the CILIP Future Libraries toolkit. The module looks at the ways futures literacy and futures thinking can help leaders better prepare for uncertain futures through more resilient, creative approaches to planning.”
