LILAC conference.
all areas of life. That’s why our members come from a wide range of sectors, includ- ing public and school libraries, further and higher education, charities and nonprofits, health libraries, government, and workplace settings. Our goal is to support members in promoting information literacy within their own unique contexts.
As the information landscape evolves, so do the challenges. Our members are increasingly focused on developing their own information literacy, including AI literacy, and helping users navigate a world where the boundaries between truth and fiction are often blurred. Yet, the core princi- ples of information literacy remain constant: ethical production, use, and sharing of infor- mation are still at the heart of our work. As a group, probably our two most well- known activities are the annual LILAC conference and the Journal of Information Literacy.
LILAC is held yearly in Spring, and is a forum to bring together people from around the world with an interest in infor- mation literacy. In 2025, we had almost 300 delegates in attendance, from 12 different countries! At the time of writing, the call for presentations is currently open for LILAC 2026, which will be held at the University of Sheffield on 30 March-1 April 2026. The deadline is 13 November 2025, so if you have some great informa- tion literacy ideas or practices to share, why not submit an abstract? The Journal of Information Literacy (JIL) is our diamond open-access, peer-reviewed journal publishing the latest research and project reports in information literacy. In

recent years we have published articles on topics including:
l information literacy and neurodiversity; l AI literacy; l indigenous information literacy; l IL and self-reflection in healthcare settings;
And even the information literacy prac- tices of followers of the QAnon conspiracy theory (yes, really!).
JIL publishes twice a year, and we are currently taking submissions for a special issue on “Banned Words, Banned Knowl- edge: Information Literacy in a Censored Society”, to be published in December 2026. Beyond LILAC and JIL, the ILG runs webinars throughout the year on topics like teaching and learning for librarians, information literacy frameworks, and pub- lishing your work. Our New Professionals Committee leads exciting projects such as:
l The Chatting Info Lit podcast;
l Biannual Randomised Coffee Trials, which pair new professionals for informal networking and peer support.
We also maintain the lis-infoliteracy mailing list and share updates via our blog, newsletter, and social media chan- nels—currently Bluesky and LinkedIn. Recently, we launched a Discord server to foster real-time conversations around information literacy. It’s currently in the pilot phase, so keep an eye on our blog and socials for updates if you’d like to join. The ILG is open to any CILIP member with an interest in information literacy, which, in today’s world, should be all of us! You don’t need to be an expert, just curious. If that sounds like you, we’d be delighted to welcome you to the group.
