Shippers can also help combat fraud in the industry. In TIA’s recently released Safeguarding Shipments against Freight Fraud and Double-Brokering Risks, we published seven strategies on how to shield cargo and payments from freight scams. These strategies are:
1. Conduct rigorous due diligence. 2. Foster long-term relationships. 3. Verify carrier and driver information at pick up.
4. Look out for potential fraud on web- based platforms.
5. Inform carriers on how to detect fraud. 6. Insist on real-time tracking updates. 7. Enforce appointment scheduling.
One thing is for sure in the fight against fraud - we all need to work together. From shippers to brokers to carriers, we all must do our due diligence to root out this scourge on the industry. Here are a few ways we can work together to help one another fight fraud:
1. Share our experiences with fraud. Are you a victim? Let us know. We want to hear your story.
2. Report fraud to your local authorities, FMCSA and on boards such as the TIA WatchDog reporting system.
3. Participate in TIA’s quarterly fraud report. Help us track fraud.
I would love to keep the conversation going on how to we can all work together, feel free to reach out to me at any time at
