SOUTH KOREA: LOTTE DUTY FREE


Elsewhere in South Korea, Lotte’s Jeju Shop reported a 41% increase in sales while Lotte’s Busan downtown shop takings rose by 25%. Chinese customers accounted


for 40% of all visitors in Lotte’s three Seoul downtown shops, while Japanese visitors represented 35% of all customers. Meanwhile, South Korean


customers were 5% of total shoppers in the three Seoul stores. Elsewhere, Lotte continues


to refresh and upgrade its downtown stores and airport shops


to provide shoppers with an exciting instore experience. Work continued last year on a


major upgrade to the main flagship store’s perfume and cosmetics section with Korean, Japanese and international cosmetics zones being created to help customers navigate the large collection of beauty products.


Lotte’s beauty brand is born In January 2020, Lotte Duty Free opened a Sienu pop-up store to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The spokesperson explains that


Sienu is a new travel retail exclusive premium cosmetics brand developed jointly by Amorepacific of South Korea and Lotte Duty Free. Sienu products are mostly priced


from KRW110,000 to KRW550,000 and include skin emulsion, eye cream, skin cream, serum and ampoules. In February, Lotte launched a YSL


Cosmetics pop-up shop at the Seoul COEX store. “YSL Cosmetics’ new perfume

operators, Lotte has reduced opening times at its downtown and airport shops, including its flagship Myeongdong store and four other downtown stores, until further notice. On 12 March, Lotte temporarily


closed its Gimpo Airport perfume and cosmetics store until further notice in consultation with the Korea Airports Corporation due to the sharp drop in international flights and passenger numbers. Notwithstanding this,


the


company remains engaged with its large customer base through the LDF Online shopping portal. It intends to maintain contact this


way until the Covid-19 crisis lifts and trading begins returning to normal. “The health and safety of our staff,


employees and customers is our priority,” adds the spokesperson. “We have made it mandatory for our shop staff to wear face masks which also are available to customers. “Regarding social distancing, we


introduced a four-day week for our headquarters staff. “Since late February/early March


our headquarters staff have been working from home.” «
