PLANT MANAGEMENT/ AUTOMATION

ProSim announces the release of version 2.0 of Simulis Pinch, its solution for water and energy savings in industrial processes.

ProSim, a leading European process simulation and optimization software house, announces the release of a major new version of its Simulis Pinch software. Initially dedicated to improving energy efficiency, this tool has been enhanced to also reduce water consumption and discharges from industrial processes by optimizing water reuse.

Simulis Pinch brings together all the features required for an advanced energy and/or water audit in a unique tool. For most industrial processes, reducing energy and water consumption is a major economic and environmental challenge. Using the pinch method to recover waste heat by strategically exchanging heat between hot and cold streams within the process, is an excellent choice to reduce energy consumption. Likewise, the reuse of water, with or without regeneration, is a proven way to reduce water consumption and waste in a process.

When the number of exchanges is small, finding the optimum configuration manually is easy. But when many configurations are possible, an appropriate methodology and a specific tool become necessary. Based on the Pinch technology, the advantage of Simulis Pinch is its automatic and fast synthesis of a network of heat and/or water exchangers, that allows to assess in a few clicks a maximum recovery of water and energy in industrial processes. The engineer can thus quickly determine the modifications to be made to the process to significantly reduce energy and water consumption.

Dedicated to process intensification, Simulis Pinch can be applied to any industrial process. The software makes it possible to quickly find a good process design, allowing the best tradeoff between investment and operating costs, to achieve a maximum reduction of energy and water consumption.

This new version is made up of 2 modules that allow easy process integration in Microsoft®

Simulis Pinch Energy allows to easily apply the pinch technology to propose an optimal network of heat exchangers to reduce the energy consumption of a process.

Simulis Pinch Water relies on the mass pinch method to find the most efficient reuse between the discharges and the water requirements of a process.

Simulis Pinch Water has been developed within the R&D project “MINIMEAU” that is supported by the French National Research Agency (ANR), and with the objective to develop a set of decision support tools to rethink water networks in the agro-food industries with the goal to minimize water consumption. This 4-year R&D project includes, in addition to ProSim, academic partners (AgroParisTech, INRAE) as well as several Agro-Industrial Technical Institutes (CTCPA, ITERG, ACTALIA, IFV), UNGDA, and an innovation-technology center (CRITT PACA). Simulis Pinch Water is validated in the food industry, for which water is a major concern, but also, demonstrated its relevance and efficiency in many other industrial sectors (chemicals, pharmaceuticals...).

Simulis Pinch comes as an add-in in Microsoft®

Excel that is simple-to-use

with easily exploitable results. It can also be used with the ProSimPlus process simulator and is therefore particularly powerful for improving the energy and environmental efficiency of complex processes.

About ProSim ProSim provides state of the art www.reviewonline.uk.com 17

simulation and optimization software that allows process industries to improve process design, increase plant efficiency and reduce their environmental impact.

It is an independent company, founded in 1989 and headquartered in Labège (Toulouse – France) with a subsidiary established in Philadelphia (PA - USA), ProSim, Inc.

Thanks to long term partnerships with major research centers and to substantial investment in R&D, ProSim continuously develops innovative software and has become today the premium alternative in process simulation. The success of the company comes not only from the efficiency, the robustness and the openness of the solutions and calculation packages it proposes, but also from the quality of the services it provides.

ProSim has particularly relevant products, prestigious references and important expertise in the chemical, refining, gas treatment, fertilizer and energy industries as well as in the specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, bio-based chemicals and waste treatment and recycling industries. ProSim clients are operating companies as well as E&C (Engineering & Construction) companies or equipment manufacturers in these fields.

ProSim offers a suite of software with good positions in important market segments (thermodynamic properties calculation, steady-state process simulation) and targeted niche products (batch chemical reactors and distillation column simulation, nitric acid plant simulation, complex plate-fin heat exchangers rating, pinch technology). Its activities also comprise engineering process consulting and custom software development.

ProSim has over 1200 customers in 75 countries around the world.
