INTERVIEW Gascony, with its rolling countryside and mountain views
LOCATION
an attractive combination of affordability, natural beauty and a slower pace of life, meaning that it’s a very appealing option for those who are seeking a life away from urban centres. While it is, of course, difficult
to predict the future of any property market with complete certainty, all the signs suggest that Gascony’s market will remain stable with some moderate price growth. ■

€750,000-€1m: Tastefully renovated properties with pools, views and land, plus extra features such as tennis courts, but you can also find small châteaux and manoirs. Over €1m: Agricultural estates, large mansions with high-quality features, châteaux and other prestigious characterful properties.
What’s the cheapest property on your books right now? We have two at the same price – €79,000. One is a village house requiring some work and the other is a barn that needs converting – it’s a blank canvas.
What’s the most unusual property you have ever sold? A large armagnac winery converted into a prestigious village house with an interior courtyard and swimming pool.
What would be your dream home in Gascony? A renovated stone property with all its original features, land, a pool, outbuildings and lovely countryside views. We have one on our books just like that at the moment for €689,000.
Why do British people buy houses in your area? For different reasons, such as the great-value properties, lovely mild climate, the beauty of the unspoiled landscapes, the tranquillity, the cuisine and the quality of life the area offers. Also its proximity to the mountains and the sea.
What advice would you give to somebody who is thinking of buying in Gascony? You must come and discover the area and find out which part of Gascony you prefer in
terms of villages, architecture, landscapes and so on. This will make your househunting much easier. I’d also advise you to approach local experts to help you with the process and to give you advice on the local market, additional/renovation costs and legal matters.
What tips would you offer to help people settle into life in Gascony? Learn basic French, which will help you integrate and participate in local events. Build relationships with your neighbours and the locals, and participate in local associations. Understanding and respecting the area’s customs will help you integrate better.
What are your predictions for your local property market? For buyers, Gascony offers
