Beach bar sound of the summer…
The pandemic was better for certain musical artists than others. Some were able to make the most of the down time to relax or create, while others missed out on lucrative and potentially career-defi ning tours. The latter was the case for Marie-Flore, whose last tour was abruptly halted mid-fl ow, thus denying her the chance to fully promote an album that had received critical acclaim and looked set to catapult her into the pop-chanteuse elevated ranks of Clara Luciani and Angèle. “I was in a kind of denial for a year. It was like refusing to see that

By Charlot’s pot plants come in a wide range of sizes and colours, to which you can add a message label if ordering one as a gift
PRODUCT PERSONAL GROWTH
Offering someone a pot plant can be seen as an unimaginative, last-resort gift idea. But since 2017, French brand By Charlot – the brainwave of Charles Fossey and Charles Senaux, who have talked about giving plants back their ‘decorative power’ – has been quietly working on revolutionising this popular sector of the ‘ultra-deco’ market. They have achieved this in two ways: fi rstly by meticulously
sourcing the plants and crafting specifi c pot shapes, sizes and materials to bring out their best side; and secondly, by offering customers the chance to personalise the plant/pot combination with a bespoke message on the outside of the pot. The ‘Colour Block’ summer collection in ceramic comes in yellow, terracotta pink, navy blue and light green while shiny models include black or silver metal, gold-plated brass and a pinkish copper. In addition, they regularly collaborate with established artists for seasonal collections. ● Typical price for a small plant with pot (Dandy), €39;

the album wouldn’t have the life I’d predicted for it,” she recently told radio station RFI.
Undeterred, the Conservatoire-trained musician, whose early infl uences included rock and US garage, as well as house and disco, and who has worked with the likes of Peter Doherty and Julian Doré, knuckled down to write a new record. This time she sang in French, not her usual English and while the lyrical content and tone of Braquage was “a visceral and toxic love story”, the new album is still about the complexities of love but at times it has a really upbeat, danceable feel – notably in lead single Mal Barré, which could easily become the sound of beach bars in France this summer. Je sais pas si ça va is out now.
