22 DEALMAKERS
FOR GROWTH
FOOD FIRM’S APPETITE
Pasture Farm Foods has been sold to long- established Burnley butchers Haffners which continues to show an appetite for growth.
Haffners was established in Burnley in 1889. When brothers Ted and Dean Cockett took it over in September last year they made it clear that they wanted to seek new opportunities for the brand.
Pasture Farm Foods, based in Pendle, was established in 2002. Online sub-brand
meat2u.net was introduced to service the wholesale market.
Local online deliveries and a second platform,
justmeats.co.uk, were added to service a UK-wide audience during Covid and beyond.

A BESPOKE DEAL DOUBLES HEADCOUNT
Chorley-based digital marketing agency Bespoke has been acquired by Manchester-based Digital Media Stream (DMS) for an undisclosed sum.
Bespoke will continue to operate under its current brand from its premises at Strawberry Fields.
The business says it does not anticipate changes to the team following the acquisition.
DMS was founded in 2011 by Simon Leeming and Dave Watson, and also specialises in the B2B space.
The acquisition of Bespoke is effectively a doubling of headcount for the company, which now expects to exceed £2m turnover for the first time this year.
Steve Brennan, Bespoke chief executive and co-founder, is excited for the company’s future fortunes.
He says: “Bespoke has had its most
successful period by some distance since committing to its B2B online lead generation specialism three years ago.
“We have turned down lots of offers to acquire the business but the deal with DMS means we immediately double our resource and expertise.
“So it’s a win for all parties, including our clients and team.”
Simon Leeming, DMS director, says of the deal: “We’ve tracked Bespoke’s progress for a couple of years and have been impressed with the quality of work and consistency of results both for the agency itself, and the agency’s clients.
“Bespoke’s client retention rate is amongst the highest we have seen in the sector, an indication that the agency does things the right way.
“We’re delighted to be able to welcome them into the fold and work with them going forwards.”
The new owners say the Pasture Farm Foods traditional butchers’ shop in Colne will be rebranded as Haffners but the staff and service will remain the same. Wholesale customers will still be serviced under the Pasture Farm Foods brand. The sale price has not been disclosed.
Ted Cockett, now managing director of both Pasture Farm Foods and Haffners, says: “We recognised the synergies between our two business immediately and opened discussions with director David Chilvers.
“We are asked every single day if we do pie deliveries, both locally and nationally, but until now we haven’t had the capacity at our bakery and we didn’t have an online ordering function nor the logistical capability to make deliveries consistently.
“All of these challenges have been dealt with through the acquisition, which will come as good news to our customers who will soon be able to get next day or workplace deliveries throughout Burnley and Pendle for all meat and pies.”
He added: “The takeover also opens further wholesale opportunities across Lancashire.”
This is the third acquisition that Dean Cockett has been involved in and he is confident that it won’t be the last. He says: “Should further opportunities present themselves with the right synergies in the right locations, we would certainly be interested in taking a look, with a view to adding them into our group.”
