Made redundant and with three young children to support and a mortgage to pay, Paul Schofield set up his fledgling business working from his dining room table.


A decade later the thriving financial planning company created out of necessity is managing the best part of £230m for its expanding client base and is continuing on its impressive growth journey


Schofield & Associates Financial Planning is a Senior Partner Practice of St James’s Place Wealth Management, a FTSE100 company trusted with £157.5bn of client funds.


The St James’s Place partnership has a network of more than 4,700 advisers across the UK, including Paul’s business, which has achieved number one ranking in the Lancashire, Manchester and Liverpool region.

It is a story of continued development that has been built on hard work and determination. The business has grown by 20 per cent each year since its creation and this year is set to record its best ever performance.


Paul, a father of five boys whose ages range from four to 17, explains how the business was born out of necessity when he found himself out of work.


In his mid-30s he was made redundant from a senior role at a high street bank when it announced a major overhaul of its operation that included stepping away from offering financial planning services.


Paul, who lives with his wife Caroline and their sons in the Ribble Valley, says: “I’d three young children at the time and a mortgage to pay and I had to work. It was as simple as that. I’ve always been in financial services so it seemed the right thing to do and I took the plunge.
