IN ASSOCIATION WITH: DOING THE DEAL

VIEW ON DEMAND

DON’T EVER FORGET THE HUMAN TOUCH

The cash may make the headlines when a deal is done and dusted but behind those figures are the efforts and experiences of real people – and that must never be overlooked.

The importance of that human element in successful dealmaking was highlighted in Lancashire’s Business View’s annual ‘Doing the Deal’ event.

This year’s online event looked to get to the heart of the thinking, the process and the pain-points involved in buying and selling businesses. It also examined the challenges of doing a deal in the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Fox Brothers, the Blackpool-based haulier of aggregates, recycled materials and earthworks contractor, acquired Leyland-headquartered

Clive Hurt Plant Hire in the multi-million-pound deal.

The combined business employs more than 320 people. Paul Fox, group managing director of Fox Brothers, explained the thinking behind the acquisition, describing it as “a catalyst” for future growth.

He said: “The principal shareholder of Clive Hurt had been in the business for 40-plus years. In that sense he was emotionally attached to the 
