APPRENTICESHIP WEEK 2021

In February, we once again celebrated the importance and value of apprenticeships and apprentices through National Apprenticeship Week 2021 and its theme of Build the Future.

I was pleased to represent Blackburn College as a panellist at the Apprenticeships Conference where regional sector leaders came together to once again shine a spotlight on apprenticeship opportunities.

She said that partnership and “co-creation” with employers was key,  

And she added: “It is not just about things we need now but what sectors and employers need in 25 years’ time.”

Linda shared how apprenticeships can help increase the productivity and creativity of businesses and also help with succession planning and upskilling.

Gareth Lindsay, managing director of North Lancs Training Group, said collaboration was also growing between training and education providers to give people in Lancashire the opportunity and the skills they need.

He said: “I’ve been in the sector for many years and there has never been a better time for collaboration between providers, colleges and universities to make sure we meet the skills needs of the county.”

Just to be able to mould an

apprentice to your values, to your way of working; I can’t speak highly enough about it

And he said he would like to see more work done to raise  available to employers.

National Apprenticeship Week mattered this year, more than any, and being on the panel provided the opportunity to support, inform and engage the business community, for training providers to share best practice and to celebrate the contribution that apprentices make to our local economy.

The Blackburn College social media platforms were also engaged in National Apprenticeship Week, showcasing the College’s multitude of apprenticeship vacancies, sharing student success stories and highlighting our solid relationships that we have built with some of Lancashire’s top Employers.

There is real potential for apprentices to not only boost the local economy, but to really Build the Future and be a driving force in the recovery of the national economy after the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boosting your workforce is not the only advantage, there are many other incentives to hiring a Blackburn College apprentice. You can be paid £1,000 for taking on an apprentice who is aged 16-18 or under 25 and has an Education, Health and Care Plan or has been in the care of their local authority.
