ALL CHANGE AT THE TOP - A TIME FOR UNITY!

The beginning of 2021 has seen some seismic change in terms of the personnel at the very top of our pan-Lancashire bodies, with Steve Fogg, chair of the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and county council leader Geoff Driver moving on, the key to Lancashire’s success in securing coming funds from government, post budget, is unity.

CULTURE CLUB IS GROWING

Lancashire’s bid to become City of Culture in 2025 is gathering pace.

A team of experts in the creation of cultural programmes and community engagement has now been put together to help deliver what is being called “a once in a lifetime opportunity”.

 programme has competed for the title  envisaged a county as one ‘virtual city’.

With these new appointments

we’re entering an exciting stage of the bid process

Bid director Debbi Lander and Tony Attard, who chairs the bid board, have led the charge since the vision was launched in November 2019.

They have now been joined by a number  

The new team includes operations director Ben Blackman; project producer Sarah Rowland and technology and strategy consultant Andrew Chetty.

Loz Kaye has been given the role of citizen engagement manager and Graham Baldwin, vice chancellor of University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), has been appointed to the Lancashire 2025 board.

Tony Attard says good progress has been made over the past 12 months in developing the virtual city vision.

He describes the new arrivals as an “exceptional group of creative individuals” and adds: “Together they have many years of experience, as well as the broad range of skills and networks now needed to take our Lancashire2025 bid to the next level.

“With these new appointments we’re entering an exciting stage of the bid process when programme, technology and community engagement come together in a creative melting pot of ideas and ambition, that will make this a bid like no other.”

A project to engage with Lancashire’s population of 1.5million will be launched in the spring, spearheaded by specialist agencies commissioned to carry out the work.

The levelling up funding and UK Shared Prosperity Fund are collectively a multi-billion pound opportunity that must not be missed.

The second message that government must hear from our public and private sector in lockstep is the call for a clear pathway out of lockdown. As has been said, we don’t necessarily need dates - but data. Structured plans nailed to key milestones in the suppression of the virus and vaccination of the population, accompanied by a logical but nuanced continuation of business support measures.

To ensure that all our businesses that can, are able to re-open smoothly and move towards  Tell us at the chamber, the LEP, Lancashire Business View, what support your business needs from government - get your voice heard.

It’s time for some joined-up action from Lancashire - for Lancashire.
