guidelines were issued in Colorado. Aside from handling the logistics of this, communications with delegates, exhibitors and sponsors etc., NASTT was faced with reviewing both its delivery of its core mission – delivering the education and sharing of knowledge of trenchless technology - and looking at providing alternative delivery options to replace the income necessary to support its programme.

The first steps NASTT took as an organisation was to contact its event organiser and create a strategy to maintain a regular information stream and update everyone involved as often as possible. Any society of the nature of NASTT serves a purpose to its industry for its members. By maintaining contact, the organisation was able to manage expectations and also assess the preferred alternatives of the majority of participants.

trenchless technology and supporting our members, we moved quickly to set up a number of new online resources, including training webinars in a number of different formats that have been very well attended”

The first ‘Teabreak’ received a record number of 300+ registrations!

No-Dig Live Digital 2020 was an ambitious programme that came to life on the 16 and 17 September. UKSTT Patrons were invited to communicate with the supply chain about their sewer rehabilitation programme and needs and with the contacts and commitment from Iain Naismith and the Sewer Rehab Contact Group and Westrade Group providing the digital platform, the event was a great success.

UKSTT continues to work very closely with Westrade Group to help bring a safe and successful No-Dig Live event in 2021. Further new dates have recently been announced as 15 to 17 June 2021 (note this is a new date to add to your diary for this event – now further postponed from March 2021). The ‘1st European No-Dig Conference’ will take place on day 2 and UKSTT will be announcing the remainder of the programme as soon as it can.

UKSTT remains grateful for the continued support from our members during this time and commits to providing as much support as possible to them all. “Membership

organisations will face a difficult time over the next few months but we continue to work really hard to bring all of the events postponed from this year into 2021, not least the UKSTT Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony on the 16th June.” said Dawn.

There is plenty to look forward to and focus on including:

 Glasgow NODIG Roadshow in May  Utility Mapping Masterclass in June

 Awards Dinner & Ceremony & NODIG Live in June

 Large Diameter Circular & Non-Circular Rehabilitation Masterclass in November

and much more…

OPTIONS ACROSS THEPOND

Like any not-for-profit organisation the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) has also been impacted by the effects of COVID-19. The largest revenue generator for its annual programme - the No-Dig Show, which it is claimed is the world’s largest specialist trenchless technology exhibition and conference, had to be cancelled with notice of just three weeks, after the venue had to close after government lock-down

The component parts of the programme were then broken down into their relevant areas – revenue generating, social and networking, educational and also the commitments NASTT was obligated to with its premium sponsors. This enabled the organisation to focus on the best provision options for each area, prioritise these and create a new delivery programme accordingly. Following a Special Meeting, the NASTT Board reviewed and approved some ambitious proposals. These included:

    – This was the final option but the only one in some circumstances. Where elements were reliant on a physical appearance and could not be delivered in an alternative format these were held off until the next show. An exception to this was the Hall of Fame nominations for highlighting the great contributors to trenchless technology. It is the pinnacle Award the Society can bestow on an individual and the board did not feel that this was appropriate to recognise on a virtual basis. NASTT therefore has held the awarding this until the next appropriate opportunity.

 – Many awards, presentations and promotions were able to be published through the NASTT website, members’ community, magazine and enews features. This provided suitable recognition and sharing of information where this was the preferred option of authors. This also enabled NASTT to provide new sponsorship and additional advertising opportunities.

  – Recognising that investors in exhibitions are both supporting the industry and also looking for networking and business opportunities, NASTT was able to provide a wider platform of webinars for key sponsors which were promoted in partnership.
