Future Water launches COVID-19 above & beyond award

In a year like no other, the business support organisation Future Water introduces an award to recognise and celebrate those working in the water industry whose efforts have gone ‘above and beyond’ in the global battle against COVID-19.

Throughout the pandemic the importance of water has been recognised as key to stopping the spread of the virus, and every day we continue to be grateful for the amazing work of all those linked to the water industry who have kept the nation supplied with clean, fresh water. In addition to keeping the water industry up and running, some in the sector have gone above and beyond what was

expected of them in the fight against this invisible enemy and it is these people Future Water are seeking to acknowledge.

Commenting on this special award category, CEO Paul Horton said: “2020 has seen the UK water industry rise to the challenge of fighting a global pandemic, and we at Future Water are so proud of how the sector has adapted during an extended period of extreme water use, movement restrictions and disruption to every element of our world.”

Paul continues: “Some instances of people and organisations going above and beyond in their response to COVID-19 have already been documented, but we are sure there are many

more unsung heroes out there, doing brilliant work in order to help and support those affected by COVID-19. With this in mind, we have introduced the Future Water COVID-19: Above & Beyond award, to recognise a company or individual that has contributed something special or unusual in the fight against the pandemic. Please help us recognise the amazing community spirit and ingenuity of our industry by submitting an entry.”

The winner of the COVID-19: Above & Beyond award will be announced Future Water virtual awards ceremony, taking place on 3 December 2020.

MGISS scores Accreditation Hat-Trick for Cloud Software and Workplace Wellbeing

Water industry surveying technology company Mobile GIS Services (MGISS) has been accredited as a supplier of software, hardware and support services to the utility sector by the supplier assurance company Achilles. A specialist in mapping and geographic information technology, MGISS is already working alongside organisations such as United Utilities and Northumbrian Water Group and it is hoped that successful qualification under the Achilles UVDB pre- qualification system will help MGISS gain further traction within this sector.

MGISS has also attained the Workplace Wellbeing Charter. Recognising a commitment to improving the lives of its team members, MGISS received accreditation across a number of facets including Leadership, Health and Safety, Mental Health and Absence Management.

The company has also been awarded a place on the Government’s procurement platform G- Cloud. Designed to ease the procurement of cloud services by the public sector the G-Cloud 12 framework makes it easier for customers to find, review and contract MGISS’s advanced

geospatial software services through the online Digital Marketplace. Managed by Crown Commercial Services it is forecast that successful suppliers, such as MGISS, will receive up to £2 billion in business.

“Although recognising completely different aspects of the business these awards are all significant milestones and accomplishments in their own right and the entire team should be proud of the hard work and commitment they have expended to achieve them,” commented MGISS Managing Director and founder Mike Darracott. “The G-Cloud and Achilles accreditation will put MGISS front and centre for the leading players within the public and utility sectors and this will help us capitalise on our work to date with organisations such as Surrey County Council and Wales and West Utilities.

“The Workplace Wellbeing Charter not only recognises our existing commitment to the health and wellbeing of our team it also gives a benchmark to work from and a toolset to work with to continuously improve,” he continued, “ and a happier and healthier workforce will, we hope, make the business
