Psychology is the study of people; how they think, act, react and interact. Psychology is concerned with all aspects of behaviour and the thoughts, feelings and motivations underlying such behaviour.
The course will allow you the opportunity of studying Psychology in depth. Over the course of two years, you will become adept at carrying out and analysing research, acquire a good level of knowledge of the key areas of Psychology and the ability and skills to work at this level of education.
You will study a wide range of modules, including Cognitive and Biological Psychology, which allows you to interpret findings from studies to enhance your understanding of the brain and nervous system, and Individual Differences, where the theories of personality and intelligence are critically considered. #
PROGRESSION
Successful students may be able to progress to the BSc (Hons) Psychological Studies top-up (please note that this route is subject to the passing of a bridging module), BSc (Hons) Psychology, or the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Sociology Level 5 (if the Psychology and Sociology pathway was taken during the FdSc) at the University of Plymouth. Please note that there is a deadline for progression applications and places may be subject to availability. The areas of health and social care, teaching and education, customer service and human resource management are careers which are particularly relevant to this course.

FdSc SPORT: COACHING, HEALTH & FITNESS

This exciting, challenging and contemporary course utilises the health promoting principles of sport, coaching, fitness, physical activity, nutrition and psychology to suggest preventions and offer moderations for a number of conditions including cancer, coronary heart disease and type II diabetes.
This course will allow you to take part in several projects, allowing you to work with clients from a variety of backgrounds and with differing needs and conditions.
As well as the scientific elements, the course also includes aspects of sport & health policy and health promotion strategies, including exercise prescription. The modules are constructed around the main scientific disciplines which underpin coaching, fitness development and health maintenance, as well as providing an insight into historical and organisational perspectives. The assessed work allows you to specialise in areas which are of particular interest to you. You will develop an array of academic, practical and interpersonal skills.
You are required to undertake a substantial work-based project in an aspect of the industry of your choice, and as a result of this and other industry-related tasks, you will come into contact with and work with local employers.
PROGRESSION
Successful students may decide to apply to spend one further year on the BSc (Hons) Health and Fitness top-up at the University of Plymouth, or the BSc (Hons) Coaching and Fitness Education, or BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning at the Plymouth Marjon University in order to obtain a Bachelor Degree.
FdA TEACHING & LEARNING

2 YEARS, FULL-TIME 3 YEARS, PART-TIME
This FdA offers an exciting opportunity for you to specialise in the study of early childhood whilst learning more about early years and primary education, curriculum, assessment, and related contemporary issues. This option would particularly suit prospective primary teachers, teaching assistants, and those specialising in the care and education of young children.
Contemporary, current, and with professional relevance, this course combines in-depth academic study with meaningful professional links and examples. You are able to collaborate, follow independent lines of enquiry, draw on guest speakers, events and lecturers in order to further your knowledge and skills, and promote opportunities for professional development.
You will study six modules per year, including Young Children’s Welfare and Wellbeing, Multi-agency Working, International Education Perspectives and Key Concepts in the Education of Young Children.
You are given a strong core of knowledge in psychology, sociology, and the holistic development of children. You will also have the opportunity to specialise in areas by selecting topics of interest, furthering links to your professional development. Engaging lectures, collaborative and independent study, trips and events with the University of Plymouth, and guest speakers provide you with a uniquely supportive and challenging learning environment.
PROGRESSION
Successful students may be able to progress to a number of top-up awards, with the eventual qualification awarded being either a BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies or the BA (Hons) Education Studies at the University of Plymouth or BA (Hons) Professional Development (Early Childhood Studies) at Petroc.
