Dubai Parks and Resorts stats soar


Dubai Parks and Resorts (ME300) attracted just under two million visitors during the first nine months of this year – an increase of 33% on 2017’s numbers.


The entertainment complex, which opened in October 2016 and features the Legoland Dubai, Legoland Water Park, Bollywood Parks and Motiongate theme parks, saw visitor numbers rise to 1.96 million up to the end of September 2018. The increase in the visitor tally came despite the traditional “seasonal slowdown” in the summer months. Dubai Parks and Resorts still recorded a 4.6% year-on-year rise in guest numbers between July and September compared with the same quarter in 2017 – boosted by the Eid holidays in August. Six Flags Dubai will be the resort’s fifth theme park and is due to open in late 2019. The park will feature 27 rides and attractions for all ages across six themed zones. It will be the first Six Flags-branded theme park in the Middle East.


Dubai Parks and Resorts is the Middle East’s largest integrated theme park and is located on a 2.85 million-square-metre site on Sheikh Zayed Road. The development is expected to cost around $3.6 billion.

Tour marks Papillon


Wilderness Explorers (CA122), the Guyana-based destination management company, is launching a new itinerary at WTM London. The tour is based on movements of French prisoners in best-selling book Papillon – 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of its release – and takes in Cayenne and Devil’s Islands in French Guiana, Paramaribo in Suriname and Wakenaam Island and Georgetown in Guyana.


The organisation is also celebrating news of an American Airlines non- stop route from Miami to Georgetown, due to commence on November 15. The flight will depart Miami at 18.00 and arrive in Georgetown at 23.27 on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.


Flights will depart Georgetown at 01.09 and arrive in Miami at 04.56 on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.


Meanwhile, Guyana Tourism Authority (CA122) has unveiled a new website and plans to announce the launch of a representative company in the UK soon.

They will be showcasing their online booking system Web Connect, which links agents to hotels, transfers, sightseeing tours and FIT packages. Tour east also has a specialist Mice division.
