Civic Leadership Institute (Grades 9-12)

Young people often believe that they can’t make a difference. That they don’t have the knowledge, skills, or capacity to influence issues like poverty, healthcare, education, or the environment. That they’re powerless to create change. Yet there are countless stories that prove this is not the case. Thousands of young people powered the peaceful protests that ended legal segregation in the U.S., and have been instrumental in movements for democracy and human rights around the world. Teenagers have started international campaigns against child labor and fought for the education of girls in the developing world. During this course, students will:

Analyze pressing social problems and promising solutions Serve communities Meet with top government, business and nonprofit leaders Develop leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills Identify practical strategies to create small and large scale change

CTD PATHWAY: This course is for students who want to explore the complex challenges that affect our communities and develop the knowledge, experience, and leadership skills necessary to make a positive impact on the world.
