Swirl, Soak, and Spray: How Water Works (Age 4)
What makes water move? On this adventure, students have a soakin’ good time exploring the concepts behind density, flow, and displacement while controlling water at their command. Students experience the different phases of water and discover how water behaves in a variety of conditions. Through creative and critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry, students “dive into” the amazing world of water. During this course, students will:
Demonstrate knowledge of the behavior of water
Document their understanding of the scientific process by using words and pictures, and through dictation and dramatic play
CTD PATHWAY: This course provides opportunities for playful exposure to the scientific process and the properties of water. Skills in asking questions, identifying important ideas, drawing conclusions, and making connections between their own lives and the natural world are excellent foundations for ongoing study across content areas, including the earth, physical, and biological sciences.
This course is something that I will
remember for the rest of my life. CTD STUDENT

’’ 14 Doctors and Dentists (PreK-K)
How is the job of doctors similar to and different from the job of dentists? Stick out your tongue and say, “aaah!” Doctors and dentists are scientists with special jobs—they help us stay healthy. Through role- play and hands-on activities, students learn the kinds of information doctors and dentists gather during regular check-ups. Students learn about healthy choices, such as eating well, getting enough sleep, exercising, and regularly brushing one’s teeth. As they role-play dentists and doctors, they explain to their “patients” how these healthy choices can improve overall health. Students also discuss other reasons that they may have visited the doctor or dentist, including a common cold, a sore throat, or a toothache. During this course, students will:
Explore how factors such as germs, nutrition, and exercise relate to overall health
Compare how the jobs of dentists and doctors are the same and different
Demonstrate an understanding about the importance of healthy choices in a variety of ways, for example by creating a healthcare book using drawings and dictated writings
CTD PATHWAY: This course introduces students to concepts related to biology and the application of scientific knowledge. Skills such as asking questions, gathering information, and understanding what humans need to thrive prepare students for further exploration within other science courses, particularly biology.
