Getting around: The city’s key tourism attractions are easily navigated on foot, which is ideal as public transport is limited. Taxis are affordable and easy to find — though slow in the old city, they’re the best option for venturing outside the walls.
NIGHTLIFE Locals and in-the-know travelers bypass the swankier bars and head directly for Iglesia de la Trinidad. Once night falls, crowds of revelers, entertainers and people watchers flock to the church and its adjoining plaza to feast on the huge variety of street food options. Groups gather to watch traditional performances and acrobatic displays from contemporary dancers, all while sipping on freshly made cocktails. These are prepared by independent vendors along the adjacent streets — keep your eyes peeled for maracuyá caipirinhas, topped with a whole passion fruit, or anything made with the signature Colombian spirit, aguardiente.
