CRUISE
SINGAPORE Once a quiet fishing village, the city-state island is now a testament to how nature can be seamlessly entwined with urban living. Located at the southern tip of the Malay peninsula, almost six million people call this futuristic city home, but don’t let that fool you — there’s plenty of space to breathe. Gardens by the Bay is one of the most
popular spots here and a perfect example of how nature and people coexist. Set in the downtown area, this nature park spans around 250 acres with over 1.5 million species of plants filling the space. Within the three gardens, there’s a cloud forest, flower dome and the Supertrees, a series of vertical gardens. Further north, you’ll find Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and TreeTop Walk, a

suspension bridge surrounded by nature and hiking trails. Between the giant looming skyscrapers that spread across the city, there’s Little India and Chinatown, a few minutes’ walk from each other. For a dose of culture, head to see the Chinese Thian Hock Keng Temple and Hindu Sri Mariamman Temple. Plenty of time should be left to indulge in
Singapore’s dining landscape, too. There are plenty of fine-dining options, with 52 places listed in the Michelin Guide, while hawker centers (open-air cooked food complexes) are dotted throughout the island, serving up delicious Chinese, Malay and Indian flavors. After the sun sets, don’t miss the light show, where fountains, lasers and light projections are set to music across the city’s skyline.
Once a quiet fishing village, the city-state island is now a testament to how nature can be blended with urban living.
