CRUISE
MUMBAI The most populated city in India, Mumbai is filled with historic buildings, wonderful culture and incredible food. Exploring the city by bike or rickshaw, you can take in sights like the Mumbai Taj (one of the best-known buildings in the city), the Royal Opera House (India’s only surviving opera house) and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But branching out from the centre of the city, there’s an abundance of bazaars, hidden temples and street food vendors. Crawford Market is a great spot for food during both day and night, with stalls selling spices, vegetables and cooked meals. There are ways to find a bit more
breathing room in Mumbai, too, including
a visit to Elephanta Island. Steeped in history, the temples here were carved into rocks some 1,500 years ago. Or explore Sanjay Gandhi National Park, a protected area located just outside of Mumbai with thousands of species of plants as well as beautiful scenery including waterfalls and the Kanheri Caves. The Hanging Gardens of Mumbai is
another beautiful green space, located on the slopes of Malabar Hill (from here, you can see panoramas of Marine Drive and Chowpatty Beach). Head back towards the water as the sun starts to go down — watching the sun set at the Gateway of India is an unmissable experience. After, opt for rooftop cocktails or head back to Crawford Market for more delicious food.
