WHY
As an additional campus of the oldest and largest school of international affairs in the US, founded in 1919, Georgetown University in Qatar’s Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) degree and curriculum are identical to those on its Washington D.C. campus and open doors to a wide range of careers from government leadership to international consultancy in economics or politics to working for a humanitarian or cultural agency. Students enjoy a high faculty-to-student ratio, and
begin with the core curriculum, giving them an understanding of philosophy, theology, the humanities, economics, political science, history and other disciplines. During sophomore year, students choose to major in one of four areas — culture and politics, international economics, international history, or international politics— allowing them to select courses related to their areas of focus and to further specialise in one area of international affairs. Experiential learning opportunities ensure students can experience service or negotiation first hand, and from the third year, study abroad offers the chance to live and study in the U.S.A. or in more than 40 other countries around
the world. There’s also the opportunity for students to undertake independent research and internships in the senior year and course work toward a minor. Some students also participate in the accelerated five-year BSFS/ Master’s degree.
HOW
Apply online. Candidates will need to submit a personal statement, official grade reports for their final three years of high school, counsellor and teacher letters of recommendation, proof of English language proficiency, SAT or ACT results, as well as passport and an application fee.
