NAME: SAMEHA AHMED ALI ALSHAKHSI INSTITUTION: HAMAD BIN KHALIFA UNIVERSITY COURSE: PHD IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
“I’m a Yemeni student at HBKU and I’m pursuing my PhD study in Computer Science and Engineering with an emphasis on Digital Addiction and Digital Wellbeing. I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Malaysia and have also worked for Accenture in Malaysia as a senior analyst. During my journey searching for a PhD opportunity, a friend suggested HBKU and I was impressed by its research work and the profi les of its academic staff . Also, I found about Qatar Foundation’s Education City, with its diff erent branches of top international universities, and Qatar’s vision for a knowledge-based economy. The diversity in the university enriches our learning experience, and there are excellent facilities provided in the dorm and in Education City. “During my spare time, besides shopping at the malls sometimes, I go out with friends to Souq Waqif to walk, shop or to enjoy a meal. We also go to the Corniche for walks or boat rides.”

NAME: AZMA MULUNDIKA INSTITUTION: NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY IN QATAR COURSE: JOURNALISM
“I’m currently a junior majoring in journalism. I chose to come to Northwestern Qatar specifi cally because Northwestern has one of the best journalism schools in the world, if not the best. When I saw my opportunity, I simply took it. “I’d actually never heard of Qatar before applying to Northwestern Qatar but once I started researching, I was intrigued by the culture, activities, and amazing architecture. I was also particularly fascinated by the fact that Qatar has one of the highest literacy rates for women in the Arab world, and this resonated with me on a very personal level. “I’m extremely grateful for studying in Qatar because it has taught me a lot about the Arab world as well as about Islam, and as a result this has allowed me to see the world from a diff erent perspective. I absolutely love the fact that the student body at my university is so diverse, because it has granted me the opportunity to learn so much about so many diff erent cultures and become more open-minded than I ever was before.”

“Qatar Foundation’s commitment to nurturing tomorrow’s problem-solvers ignited my desire to study at one of its universities. HBKU is an institution that has a great reputation throughout the MENA region for its incredible work in innovation. More importantly, it creates a unique educational environment where international students can thrive. The scholarship opportunities off ered by Qatar Foundation — with the aim of supporting students throughout their stay in Qatar — played an
inestimable role in my deciding to study at HBKU. “I look forward to engaging in the dynamic knowledge- exchange process with the other MA participants from diff erent backgrounds and to forming new connections and expanding my social network to a global level. This is because the university isn’t just a place for gaining knowledge, but it’s also a fertile environment in which to build a robust network.”
