WHY
The Bachelor of Science in Journalism (BS) degree gives students a firm foundation in writing, reporting, editing, production and critical thinking in a dynamic and diverse cultural landscape. Students complete 32 units of coursework, typically delivered over four years, with small class sizes offering a faculty-to-student ratio of 1:8, ensuring invididualized attention. In addition to gathering and creating high-impact stories, students gain essential skills on how to

deliver them across a variety of media platforms. Students also have access to cutting-edge facilities, including the largest soundstage in the region, a projection theatre, several production studios and media labs, a multimedia newsroom, editing suites and a research library. Around 40% of the course focuses on journalism but students also study liberal arts subjects such as history, business or economics and can study at other elite Education City universities in their sophomore (second) year. The curriculum includes a 10-week internship at a media organisation in junior year (third), often outside of Qatar, to gain experience in the real world, working at digital news operations, magazines,
television stations, newspapers and public relations agencies. Past residency placements have included The Washington Post, National Geographic, USA Today and Al Jazeera.
HOW
All prospective students must submit an application form online through The Common Application, with a non-refundable US$75 or application waiver and include an official secondary school report, as well as counsellor and teacher recommendations. Students require a good grasp of English (reading and writing) and mathematics.
