Eco Hotel Saltus SOUTH TYROL, ITALY
Nestled on the edge of a mountain forest at an altitude of 3,600ft, Hotel Saltus is conveniently located just five miles from Bolzano, the state capital. True to its vision of ‘living nature because we are nature’, the hotel offers a platform for authentic, environmentally conscious relaxation, complete with a forest spa, sky pools, a hiking gallery, yoga, forest bathing and much more. The Saltus Relaxation programme invites travellers to daily classes focused on the world’s most renowned relaxation techniques. Set in the small mountain village of San
Genesio, the hotel enjoys an enviable position on the sunny high plateau of Tschögglberg, which stretches between Bolzano and Merano. Lovers of the great outdoors can enjoy 500 miles worth of marked hiking paths that start right outside the hotel. Salten is Europe’s largest larch meadow, where
hiking trails still connect small wooden huts (a few with restaurants, most used for storage by local farmers) and brightly coloured larch trees — the whole scene framed by the Dolomites.
At its very heart, the Saltus is an eco-hotel and
is committed to protecting both the local culture and the surrounding nature. During its 2019 construction, only local and natural materials were used. The whole guest experience (pre-stay, stay, post-stay) has been optimised to minimise environmental impact whenever possible. The Forest Spa, located deep in the spruce
forest, is almost 100% chemical-free, single-use plastic is banned and tap water comes straight from the mountains. In addition, several basins collect the rain for the garden, pools, etc. Guests who arrive by train are picked up
by the hotel shuttle in Bolzano and receive a 5% discount on the overnight price (Saltus Green Bonus). On-site mobility is completely free and, thanks to a tightly knit network of public transport, very flexible. The hotel’s CO2 requirements are regularly recorded, analysed and, where possible, substituted by more sustainable alternatives. Part of the profit is invested in green R&D, reforestation or other environmental protection projects.
Don’t miss Taking a dip in the 60ft-long heated sky pool, which offers stunning views of the peaks of the Dolomites
