Muchenje Safari Lodge WESTERN CHOBE, BOTSWANA

Situated high up on an escarpment in the Western Chobe region is Muchenje Safari Lodge, one of Chobe’s oldest independently owned and run luxury safari lodges. Set within the Chobe Forest Reserve, it’s an easy 50-minute drive from Kasane Airport and two hours from Victoria Falls. The lodge has an extensive lounge, bar and

dining area overlooking the Chobe River and water hole. The dining area offers both separate and mixed dining, while the boma is a great venue for a bush dinner under the stars. The outdoor deck areas are set against the

escarpment and enable guests to enjoy stunning views across to Namibia and the floodplains. The swimming pool and surrounding lounge area afford similar views while cooling off in the midday heat. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are usually served

at the lodge, with certain excursions offering breakfast or lunch in the bush or aboard a boat on the Chobe River. Muchenje has 10 luxury individual cottages

and a larger family cottage, each with a private deck offering views of the Chobe River. The family

cottage at Muchenje offers spacious comfort, with an additional mezzanine open-plan sleeping area, which can accommodate two children. With two bathrooms and a generous deck, it’s perfect for a family travelling together. The experienced local guides have had extensive

training in wildlife-spotting and birdwatching. The lodge also has a registered and accredited bird expert on hand to enable guests to fully appreciate the rich diversity of avian life the park is home to. A fleet of safari vehicles and boats is available

to transport guests into the park to explore the magnificent region. Along with game drives and boat safaris, guests can enjoy guided walks, night drives, seasonal mokoro (a traditional canoe) trips and cultural visits to local villages. Safari activities are planned carefully to coincide with when you’re most likely to see wildlife. This means early morning activities such as game drives or guided bush walks, late afternoon game drives as the temperatures start dropping and even night game drives after dinner to see what’s moving around the reserve once the sun has set.

DON’T MISS When staying at Muchenje, guests can explore the stunning Chobe region, one of Africa’s most rewarding safari destinations
